My James M.(not sure what the M. stands for, a couple of later James Furlong's had an M initial that was Miner) Furlong was born in NY in 1810. I have all the data about he and his wife and most of their 11 children. Slowly working my way through all of that. James's eldest son was named Robert(and there are several later Robert's also) but whether he connects to your Robert, I'm simply not sure. I do know his wife somehow connects to Harrison's also, but frustratingly I cannot find a concrete connection. Also have an unidentified Samuel Furlong in the family plot in Brooklyn who died in 1857, have no idea who he is. James married Angeline (Cash?) approximately 1835 or so, cannot find a listing for him in the 1840 census, the only James that shows up is a James M.(who I think is James Madison F.) Furlong in Illinois, but have no idea whether its him, somehow I rather doubt it as all of his children have their birthplaces as NY. Except one, Henry ! Harrison Furlong lists his father's birthplace in the 1880 census as Virginia and also has his own birthplace as Virginia. He is the only one of James children to do so, such a puzzle, as James himself has his birthplace in the 1850 and 1860 census as New York. I have one other unidentified Furlong that is living with James's widow in the 1870 census, a August Furlong, age 15. Can't find him anywhere in the 1880 census(except a fellow in Iowa and I don't think its the same one), so perhaps he was deceased by then. The Cash surname figures prominently with the Furlongs in the 19th century, Angeline's mother was Elizabeth Cash (b. in NY in 1798), have no clue what her maiden name was, the family bible had it Robertson, but I haven't seen those pages in years so I could be mistaken. I have a list of James and Angeline's children, along with other bits of information, such as occupations etc. As far as I know, none of my Furlongs were from Pennsylvania or Tenn. There was a vague bit of information via my great grandmother(James daughter with whom my mother was quite close) that they had briefly lived in Ohio for a time, but have found no evidence of them being there as yet. Any insight would be much appreciated, and look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Lisa Kelley
