Mine were from Pouch Cove/Shoe Cove (northeast of St. Johns). I have sooo many John's and Thomas' in my tree, it could be anyone of them!! This John in particular, is the 5th generation back. I will retrieve my tree and send you what information I have. Should be interesting if they are the same!!! :) Please let me know of what information you have, so we may compare :) Thanks!!! Maureen

I am searching for any information regarding a Gerald Furlong who served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis,WA during the summer of 1959.If anyone has information about Gerald, please contact me on list. K.J. Blackburn
Marge, I notice that your ancestor Patrick emigrated from Ireland to Prince Edward Island prior to 1834. In a list of Mining fatalities in Britain is a JOHN FURLONG, aged 39, killed by explosion in Drumgrange Pit, Dalmellington, West Scotland in January 1886. The only person who matches on the 1881 Census for Scotland was JOHN FURLONG, Unmarried, aged 34, Fireman on S.S., born Prince Edward Island, and of 83 Nelson Street, Govan, Lanarkshire. Any connection? Regards, Daphne. (U.K.)

I am not too sure but I think he retired to The Isle of Man .. His son.. Malcolm Stephenson was born in Maulmain Burma He had two sisters.names Hilda Mabel and Evelyn seem to have come up somewhere. Thanks anyone who can help..
Greetings Carol: Is your Iowa Webster Co., Iowa anywhere near Rockwell, Iowa ... note my Ellen Furlong buried at Rockwell, Iowa.: In a letter from Gladys Franzen, dated Feb. 15, 1986: " Both Michael Moroney [and Mary Louise] were born in County Clare. Michael was baptized on October 5, 1845. Mary Louise was baptized on December 4, 1841. [Our records show 1844] There was another sister, Catherine baptized on January 2, 1838. No records of their date of birth. Also believe Catherine must have died during the Potato Famine. Their parents were Lot and Ellen (Furlong) Moroney. ..." Later info showed that she in fact married in Oconto, WI as did her sister Mary Louise. Ellen & her husband lived in According to a letter from Mrs. John Franzen, Nov. 30, 1977, Michael and Mary Moroney were brother and sister. Michael is Her grandfather, Mary is Dad's grandfather, therefore Mrs. Franzen and Dad were cousins -- if I have that right. Also according to Mrs. Franzen's letter of May 18, 1977,; From the census of 1880 she found her grandfather's name in the census. She is using the spelling of Moroney (versus Maroney). The information here is based upon her notations from that census and her letter. In 1880, Margaret (age 23) and Michael (age 33) lived with his mother, Mrs. Lot (nee Furlong) Moroney (age 72). She died in 1884. They lived in Swaledale, Iowa then. [Swaledale 25 mi south of Mason City, west of Hy.65] Many of the photos Mrs. Franzen has, however, were taken in Appleton, Manitowoc, and Green Bay, WI. She is also wondering if they could be related to Baleau (Ballou) who used to visit Margaret and Michael. [Note: Yes, Catherine m. James Bellew in 1856 in Oconto, Wi as later research discovered.]] Michael's Mom, Lot, is buried on the same lot as Michael's in a small Catholic cemetery outside of Rockwell, Iowa. Mrs. Franzen did not know if Michael and Mary Moroney had additional brothers and sisters. There was no mention of the father's name of Michael as well. In 1825 he moved over to Newfoundland, or should I say "he Fled". He was in some kind of disturbance there(not sure what it was), so he left. When he moved to Newfoundland he DROPED the "FUR" part of his name, and became just James LONG. In Newfoundland he married a Maria Honeyburn( in 1826 in Kings Cove) He settled in Open Hall and was very well known in the area . I am not sure when he was born but I am guessing it was around 1790's- 1800. If anyone KNOW ANYTHING about this person I would LOVE to hear from you.
