It is one in a series for the entire state of Alabama, know as the Heritage Collection. I recently received my copy that I ordered before it went to press; and I can tell you, I was not disappointed. In fact, I was stunned not only by its size and quality, but the in-depth histories and photos, so I wanting to share the info with other family genealogy researchers with connections to Covington County. So, I asked how the public may purchase a copy of the 2003 book. Here's the info I received from Mr. Curtis H. Thomasson; Andalusia Star News heritage writer, who was one of a number of dedicated heritage folks who orchestrated the layout and production of this wonderful book. Covington County Alabama Heritage book is a high-quality hard-back book that is nothing less than library quality; 378 pages, red, with Gold embossed lettering on the front cover; roughly about 1.5" thick, 12" by 10" in size. It is such a great tool for family genealogical researchers probing Covington County, Alabama ancestry. I wanted to let others know about this resource, which also makes a wonderful, attractive coffee-table book for company as well. I am especially amazed by so many in-depth family histories and related historical information packed into this book about the early settler-families in Covington County, Alabama--and their descendants. Most of these family history articles were written by direct descendants still living in and around Covington County. The book also contains a military service section about ancestral military services. Impressive to me are the many old photographs of families community and towns in the 1800s and early 1900. This book has already advanced my family genealogy research considerably, and I'm not yet half way through it. I hope it can do the same for you. If the price seems high, try buying a hard back novel these days--or a small text book. This book is for generations to come. Another reason for the cost is because this book is primarily for local distribution that doesn't enjoy mass market distribution nationally.
