They came first to Texas joining Austin's Colony in 1828. Benjamin moved to DeWitt Colony in 1830 as a single man just north of Gonzazles. Benjamin was a signer of the Dec of the people of Texas. Silas was the father of Galba Fuqua. Galba died at the Alamo with his Uncle Benjamin's brother-in- law, William King, in March 1836. Ephraim Fuqua left Gonzales for Erwin which is about 15 miles north of Washington on the Brazos. A Fuqua Family Cemetery is located here where the following last names can be found: Fuqua, Moody, O'Brien, Hughes, Arrington, Lynch.
