    1. RE: [FUQUA] Re: Children of Ralph Fuqua
    2. Ron Goodman
    3. Kay, Bedford Co. Will Book One Page 323, Recorded 12-11-1760, Proved 3-3-1761. Will of William Fuqua mentions wife Elizabeth, sons Samuel, Joseph, Moses, William, John, dau. Sarah Ward; Executors Elizabeth Fuqua, Samuel Fuqua, John Fuqua, Joseph Fuqua; Witnesses Thomas Watkins, Thomas Baughan, Joseph East, James Anderson. In Ralph Fuqua's will (as posted recently to the list), he mentions son John Fuqua, and also mentions "... but if the said John Fuqua should Recover his Health & Have Lawful Heirs of his own Body ...", which establishes that John, son of Ralph, was of poor health and did not yet have any heirs in 1765. Did he miraculously recover his health and marry Anna Harrison in 1767? Possibly. John Fuqua wrote his will 04-17-1796. Abstracts of Bedford Co. Wills Book #2 1788-1803, p 184-186. proven 26 Sep 1796 Names wife Ann, Executor Joseph Fuqua, Sr. (brother?), dau Edy, wife of Moses Milam, son William (given 300 ac), son Joseph remainer of land at age 21, Ralph, John, Elizabeth, Magdelen, Ann, Celey. Wit. Henry Jeter, Bettey Jeter, John Bondurant. Brothers William and Ralph Fuqua both had sons named John and Joseph. Both of these families were in Bedford Co. at the same point in time, which I am sure causes lots of confusion. The John Fuqua who d. 1796 had a son Ralph, which would tend to indicate he may have been a son of Ralph Fuqua b. ca 1693. However, this cannot be certain. Ralph Fuqua also had a son Ralph, b ca 1740, who could have been the Ralph Fuqua who purchased some of the lands in Bedford Co. after 1760 that we have heretofor attributed to Ralph Fuqua, Sr., who may have already been in poor health when he wrote his will in 1765. His sons William, Ralph, Thomas, Henry and Isham, given token bequests in his will, may have already spent their inheritance acquiring their own lands, in Bedford or elsewhere. I know this is not a firm answer, but unless someone has bible records or other proofs, I am not sure there is one. -----Original Message----- From: Kay Gilbreath [mailto:dkgilbr@pdnt.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 08:38 To: FUQUA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FUQUA] Re: Children of Ralph Fuqua I have always believed the my John Fuqua b ca 1735 married Anne Harrison was the son of Ralph Fuqua. 1. [FUQUA] Ralph's son John
    2. Jan Babb McClintock
    3. Ralph's son, John Fuqua, apparently did recover his health. In 1770 his mother obtained her 1/3 dower right to Ralph's land "Pursuant to an order of Bedford Court....by consent of her son John Fuqua who is the heir to the said land....." John married Anne Harrison and produced 9 children..one of whom was William Fuqua who married Rhoda Reynolds in 1808. This William has been confused with another William Fuqua who married Nancy Kelly in 1807. Attempts to find this William Fuqua's identity have not been successful. If anyone has any proof that William son of John and Anna Harrison was the husband of Nancy Kelly, please post here. William Fuqua and Elizabeth ?'s son, John, born ca 1728) married Susannah Bates . They both died in Charlotte Co. VA. Jan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wYX.2ACEB/820 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Thomas G. Fuqua's children. He was b. 1831 in Greenup Co., KY and married Sophronia Washburn (my gg aunt) in 1856 in Morgan Co., MO. They had 4 children that I am aware of. She died in 1869 in Lyons Co., KS. Their children were Roxanna Eugenia, Richard James, Thomas Washburn and George. In 1870, Roxanna and George are found living with Sophronia's sister, Susan and her husband, Marcus Vinton in Allen Co., KS but Thomas G. Fuqua and his 2 boys, Richard and Thomas are not there. Thomas G. ends up in Polk Co., OR where his father, Richard J. died in 1881, and where Thomas G. died in 1905. Richard J.'s father was William Monroe and his father was Moses F. I am trying to find the four children. Roxanna married Joseph Reeder and may have stayed in Kansas when her father went to Oregon. She may had gone to Oregon. Richard James ends up in the 1920 cenus for Polk Co., Oregon. Thomas Washburn and George are both mysteries at this point. Any ! help anyone could give would be appreciated. Mary Lou Hanson

    3. Dear fuqua Family, I want to thank all of you for your generous help in my attempt to fit my Ann into your family. I'm sorry to say she didn't turn out to be a Fuqua. I started the controversy but I thought it had all been worked out and everyone was "Kissing Kin" again. But I like others think it did stimulate a lot of information sharing which is always good. Thanks again, Goodbye and Good Luck to all. Jan Morgan On Tue, 22 Apr 2003 19:00:32 EDT GinnylovesRick@aol.com writes: > I really don't think it is appropriate for what was going on > publicly. I got upset and deleted lots of it for it should have been between them and now others have jumped on the bandwagon and it keeps getting worse. Is there ever going to be an end to this situation? I wish it would STOP! It is supposed to be family and it almost seems like the Hatfield and the McCoys or the Stampers and the Underhills. 3. Ron Goodman posted the children of Ralph Fuqua and I noticed that some of them were in Knox Co., IL. It caught my interest as my dad was born in Galesburg, Knox Co., IL. My Douglas line came to Knox Co., also. My McCurdy/ Rutledge line came from PA. to IL where they married into this line. I noticed that you had Reynolds listed also, and I happen to have Reynolds in my line also.My first Reynolds was Elizabeth Reynolds who married Charles Moorman in Virginia. Although it's not documented, except for what my grandparents passed down in the family Bible, this is what I believe to be my line. I would love to know more about the Knox Co., IL branch. 2. Jan Babb McClintock
    3. John Fuqua of Pontotoc Co MS was married to Mary "Polly" Minor in Bedford County VA 3 April 1806. They were the parents of at least 5 children, Mildred, Catherine, Frances, William and John. Did he marry someone else who was the mother of Lucinda, Sarah, Robert, Martha and Mary Jane? He did marry a woman named Lucy who was the mother of Benjamin, Armstead and Theodosia. Does anyone know what Lucy's maiden name was? She was supposedly born in VA about 1804. Thank you. Jan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.

Surnames: Fouquet, Fuqua Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wYX.2ACEB/818 Message Board Post: John FUQUA was born 17 Feb 1788 in Charlotte Co., VA. He grew up near Mt. Sterling in Montgomery Co., KY. His parents were John F. FUQUA and Margaret LAWSON. John is believed to have married, and died in Montgomery Co. Because of court house fires, no records can be located to verify this. John is known to have had one son, Alford FUQUA, who relocated to Missouri, married there, and migrated to California, where he died. Seeking information on John's wife, other children (if any), and date/place of death. Missouri court records related to his son, Alford, indicate that John died in 1830 or before, probably in Montgomery Co..

    3. Did you know that queries posted on the Rootsweb Fuqua Message Board at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.fuqua appear not only on that board, but on the FUQUA-L and FUQUA-D lists as well? Many people cruise through the Message Boards without ever joining a list. It is easy to do. Just go to http://www.rootsweb.com/ and click on the Message Boards tab at the top of the page. Follow the directions to find message boards for any surname which has one. Messages which are posted on the Fuqua Message Board are automatically relayed to FUQUA-L and, subsequently, to FUQUA-D. The reverse is not true. Messages posted at FUQUA-L appear subsequently in FUQUA-D, but are NOT relayed to the Fuqua Message Board. Your queries will get maximum exposure if you post them on the Fuqua Message Board.

    1. [FUQUA] List Activity
    2. Frank Fuqua
    3. It seems that activity on the list feeds upon itself. Although the recent burst of information exchange began with a controversy, that aspect quickly faded away and worthwhile exchanges took over. There are currently 59 individuals subscribed to FUQUA-D, and 115 to FUQUA-L. Imagine all of the Fuqua information that is held by those 174 people. There is a small but constant turnover of subscribers. Many of the them subscribe, see nothing much happening, and unsubscribe without posting a query. Obviously, the vast majority of subscribers who say are content to observe list activity but, for some reason, don't participate. Imagine what the result would be if every subscriber posted just a single query regarding Fuqua information they would like to have. The probability is quite high that someone out there would be able to provide a clue, or maybe even the complete answer. Will you take the time to post a query? Imagine the rational discussions which could take place regarding Fuqua information sources, research methods, migration patterns, etc., etc. Imagine differing points of view being presented calmly and in the form of debates/discussions, rather than personal attacks. That's what a list such as this is for. Hopefully, Ron Goodman started a new trend when he recommended two books which will give insight to the lives and times of our colonial ancestors. Does anyone else have something to recommend? This list is for your benefit. Do something with it. Frank Fuqua List administrator

    2. Ron, Thank you so much for the information on the location of the land of the Fuqua's, and the suggested reading material. My local library does not have David Hackett Fischer's books, however, the Nashville Public Library which is about 30 minutes from me has all of his books. He is quite a prolific writer. If I choose to purchase these they are also available on Amazon.com and I am sure at my local bookstores. I have not looked at the Fuqua site since beginning research a year and a half ago. Now that I am more into my research I can't wait to go back and read all the queries again. Patty
