Because of the name confusion, I am having great difficulty proving she is the daughter of William H. and Tennessee Waggoner Bugg. It is one in a series for the entire state of Alabama, know as the Heritage Collection. I recently received my copy that I ordered before it went to press; and I can tell you, I was not disappointed. In fact, I was stunned not only by its size and quality, but the in-depth histories and photos, so I wanting to share the info with other family genealogy researchers with connections to Covington County. So, I asked how the public may purchase a copy of the 2003 book. Here's the info I received from Mr. Curtis H. Thomasson; Andalusia Star News heritage writer, who was one of a number of dedicated heritage folks who orchestrated the layout and production of this wonderful book. Covington County Alabama Heritage book is a high-quality hard-back book that is nothing less than library quality; 378 pages, red, with Gold embossed lettering on the front cover; roughly about 1.5" thick, 12" by 10" in size. It is such a great tool for family genealogical researchers probing Covington County, Alabama ancestry. I wanted to let others know about this resource, which also makes a wonderful, attractive coffee-table book for company as well. I am especially amazed by so many in-depth family histories and related historical information packed into this book about the early settler-families in Covington County, Alabama--and their descendants. Most of these family history articles were written by direct descendants still living in and around Covington County. The book also contains a military service section about ancestral military services. Impressive to me are the many old photographs of families community and towns in the 1800s and early 1900. This book has already advanced my family genealogy research considerably, and I'm not yet half way through it. I hope it can do the same for you. If the price seems high, try buying a hard back novel these days--or a small text book. This book is for generations to come. Another reason for the cost is because this book is primarily for local distribution that doesn't enjoy mass market distribution nationally. Kayrn Claire Fuqua and I have been discussing Thomas, Moses and Prather and trying to figure out if their land grant really was for service in the Revolutionary War or perhaps for service in the Georgia Militia, or, if that would amount to the same thing. I believe Henry Candler Fuqua's first son was Andrew Augustos, born about 1809. Thomas Berryhill Fuqua born ca 1816. Maybe there's a clue in that name. Hello! Sorry to delay in responding to your e-mail. My Fuquay family came from Bullett County, Kentucky to Warrick County some time in the early 1800's (before 1820.) I descend, I believe, through Isham Fuquay, the son of Henry and Tabitha Fuqua(y). Isham came to Warrick County, had a son named Noah who had a son named William who had a daughter named Rachel who gave birth to my grandmother and two other children. My family left Warrick County in the later 1800's and moved to Evansville, Indiana and lost touch with most of the Fuquays they left behind in Warrick County. I don't know your John Fuquay, but I imagine he is probably related to my Fuquay line. There is a Warrick County website that has marriage, death, census, military, cemetery records, etc. You could probably access this by using a search engine and typing in "Warrick County+Indiana+birth records+census+........" If you can't access this information, let me know and I'll look the web address up for you myself, OK? I know there was a John Fuquay living in Warrick County in the early 1800's, but I don't know if this is the father of your Sarah, particularly since it sounds like your Sarah moved at a later date to Warrick County. It's even possible that the John you mention could be a brother to my Isham or Noah (what dates/decades are we talking about?) I understand that there were Fuquays, too, that came to Warrick County from Illinois (I believe these Fuquays also had been living first in Kentucky.) I haven't gotten all of these folks sorted out, but feel sure they are all related. It would seem that most of these Fuquays descend from the Fuqua line that goes back to early colonial Virginia. Also, Jan Babb, who is a frequent correspondent on this Fuqua internet site may be able to help (far more than me.) She has a much more reliable data/info about Fuqua(y) family members and possibly could tell you how your John fits in to the larger family if you could provide more details to her or others on this family forum. Best wishes!
Hi Jan I am again confused your right the dates of William and Sarahs children would not be right for one of them to have had Henry Candler,so I am back to square one . I I guess we go looking for another Thomas because I do believe a Thomas was Henrys father and Rachel was his mother we know that at least I believe that because of all the Thomas's in the cemetary and one gravestone is a Thomas with no date that can be read.(stone is broken) plus Henry named his first son Thomas. Of course also the family group sheet with Thomas and Rachel married. I guess Ill go back to Laurens County Ga and start looking again mabey something in the cemetary will reveal some new light who knows also their Geneology library is good and they have good people helping . I just dont know what else to do but I really want to find his father and walls have been broken before and they can again I'm ever the optomist. If you have any ideas anything, anything please email me .Thank you so much. Kayrn
Kayrn There were lots of Fuqua men named Moses, William and Thomas. Very difficult to keep track of them sometimes. You mentioned that Moses and Thomas both married women named Judith. Moses Fuqua married Judith Woodson. He died in Greenup County KY. David Fuqua who married Druscilla Terry was their son. A Thomas Fuqua married Judah ? in Bedford County. He left a will there date 1806. I assume these were the two people you might have been speaking of. William Fuqua married Sarah Prather in 1769. Their children would have been born after that time, so the earliest would have been approximately 1770. Since we have a birth date of 1784 for Henry, I don't think their children could have been Henry's father. Thomas, Moses and Prather all got land in GA from the Revolutionary War. Their birthdates don't fit with that either. So maybe we have been on the wrong track all this time with William and Sarah Prather. By the way, William's parents were Ralph and Priscilla Fuqua. Sarah's father's name was Thomas.....let me know your thoughts on this. Jan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Shopping - with improved product search
Hello Again Jan, I went to coffee County Georgia and saw again the family records that my info on Henry Candler and Thomas and Rachel came from someone did a search there and wrote all this down but I still have no idea who that person was , it does not say on the family group sheets but as I was about to quit looking In frustration I turned the papers over and guess what , it had William Fuqua and Sarah Prathers name on the back and gave their marraige date also it had David Fuqua and Drucilla Terry Dec 1794 Pittsylvania Co . Now I am concluding from this that you are right and William and Sarah are the parents of Thomas, and Thomas was the father of Henry Candler Fuqua . I looked also in Washington County Ga and found nothing new. Sherman burned all records it would seem , of course that is the story I got all over these Countys . I went to Jefferson Co, Washington Co ,and Coffee Co . Now the questions remain who was Williams Father and who was Thomas's wife Rachels parents I think it must have been Candlers but cant prove that do you know who this Williams Father could be or does anyone ? I also think The Thomas I have as Henrys Father is the same Thomas that was in the Revolution. Moses was married to a Judith and everything says Thomas was married to a Judith.I think this is just a mistake and it should be Rachel. I think Thomas and Moses were brothers so how common would it be for them both to be married to a Judith . I dont think that is unlikely. Well please write back and tell me what you think of all this and please anyone reading this that knows anything please write. Thank you ,Kayrn Fuqua
Barb, I wonder if our families are related. My great grandmother was Sarah Alafire Fuquay daughter of John Fuquay and Permelia Ross. She was orphaned at and early age and had to live with other families. She married James Anderson Todd and moved to Warrick Co., IN from Hamilton Co., IL (the McLeansboro area) Salafire@aol.com

Hart County wasn't formed until 1819. Hart is a "burned" county; thus most of its records were lost. However, Kentucky collected excellent annual tax records for counties during this period and they exist for both Hardin and Hart. They will tell you when your family started paying taxes and where (on what watercourse) they lived. These records can be rented, on film, from the Church of LDS. The Bomar and Fuqua families also are mentioned in the records of at least two early Hart County churches and these also are available on LDS film.
Hello The Fuquas from Bullitt County KY originated with Henry and Tabitha Fuqua who came to Kentucky from Bedford County VA. One of their sons was Isham Fuqua, born ca 1780, who married Rutha Lout 17 August 1800 in Bullitt Co. Isham died about 1828 and Rutha died 10 Sept 1865 . (Isham's brother Joseph married Rutha's sister, Elizabeth) Isham's son was Noah, born ca 1815. He married Rachel Hedges, 10 January 1836 in Warrick, IN. Rachel died in 1892 and is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Their son, William was born ca 1836. Henry Fuqua from Bedford Co. VA was the son of Ralph Fuqua and Priscilla Owen Fuqua. Ralph's father was the original immigrant. Henry and Tabitha's other sons were Joseph, John and Henry. Joseph, as I said, married Elizabeth Louts (their parents were Daniel Louts and Hannah Morse) Henry married Nancy Allen..most of their descendants moved to around Coles County, IL. John married a Susannah Leyton in Bullitt County. He lived and died in Henderson Co. and had several articles written about him being an "Indian Scout" etc. The Stephen Fuqua that you mentioned was Noah's brother. Aaron Fuqua was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Louts. Henry and Nancy Allen also had sons John W., Henry and Isham. Henry and Isham both went to IL...no further information on John W. Hope some of this information has been helpful to you. Regards Jan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Shopping - with improved product search
