She has a web page at http://www.IrishGenealogy.com/ that has a link to this Fulton branch. You asked how I am related to this line. At this time I do not know of any concrete evidence that ties my Fulton line to theirs. Abraham Fulton and Margaret Guthrie were members of the First Dunboe Church in Articlave, Ireland. They brought a letter from this church to America to substantiate that they were members in good standing of this congregation. The First Dunboe Church is one of the places we visited in the Fulton 1995 reunion in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The photograph of the church is on the web page at: http://www.frontiernet.net/~elisa96/hirth/wwpg7.htm Rev. George Fulton of Pittsburgh PA, who is in this photograph in the top row on the right, is a descendant of the Abraham Fulton and Margaret Guthrie line through Abraham's son Henry. So why do I take an interest in this line and in the widow Agnes line ? Becuase their lines carry the name Henry and may link to one of my collateral Henry Fulton lines. About five years ago I started my genealogical "quest" by accident. My aunt mentioned that there was an old family cemetery in the town where I was raised and had not known about. I discovered the grave of my gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather James Fulton who was born 1739 in Dalkeith/Musselburgh, Scotland and settled in Bethel, Sullivan Co. NY. In the manuscript, "Ancestor James Fulton of Fulton Settlement, Bethel, New York, and Descendants" by Rev. Chas. N. Sinnett , 1922, is a short autobiography that James Fulton wrote one month before he died in 1824. A copy is at New York State Library at Albany. James met Robert Fulton of steamboat fame on the Hudson River before 1809 and they felt that they were related. They felt that JamesÂ’ half-uncle Henry Fulton was RobertÂ’s grandfather. Henry Fulton was born ca. 1660-1685 in Dalkeith, Scotland. He moved to Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1714-1727. His son Robert Fulton moved to Lancaster, PA in ?1731 or ?1763. This manuscript outlines the following relationships, but I have been unable to prove any of it with primary source information. Descendants of ---(from Forfar) Fulton 1 ---(from Forfar) Fulton -b: Bef 1649 in ?Forfar, Scotland +---wife1 of Forfar Fulton -b: in ?Forfar, Scotland 2 Robert(lost-at-sea) Fulton - b: Aft 1660 in Mussleburgh, Scotland,d: in ?at Sea, Bay of Biscay, Spain 2 Henry Fulton -b: Aft 1660 in Dalkeith, Mussleburgh, Scotland, d: in ?Londonderry, Ireland +Mary Brown b: , , Londonderry, Ireland Mary has a brother Hugh Brown who is alive in 1769 when James visits Ireland. 3 Robert Fulton b:Abt 1730,Londonderry,Ireland,d: PA. +Lass from Londonderry b: in ?, , Londonderry, Ireland, d:in PA 4 Robert(steamboat) Fulton *2nd Wife of ---(from Forfar) Fulton: +---wife2 of Forfar Fulton --- 2 John Fulton b: Aft 1662 in Mussleburgh, Scotland, d: in ?,Mussleburgh, Scotland +---wife1 ---1 b: in ?, , , Scotland 3 Henry Fulton b: Bef 1725 in ?, , Scotland d: in ?, ,Ireland 3 Mary Fulton b: Bef 1726 in ?, , Scotland d: in ?, ,USA (Mary and her brother Henry went to Ireland to join their half-Uncle Henry's people. Mary came to America with Robert, half-Uncle Henry's son. Two conflicting dates of this migration are listed in the memoirs. One states they went to America in the 4rth year of King George II (This would be about 1731). Perhaps this is a transcription typo and should be King George III. In another section the memoir states that they left for Philadelphia in 1763 and in another section it states that James left for America twenty years after Mary and we know James left Sept 1782 and arrived Jan 1783. *2nd Wife of John Fulton: +---wife2 ---2 b: in ?, , , Scotland 3 James FULTON b: August 07, 1739 in Dalkeith/Musselburgh, Sct, d: November 23, 1824 in Fulton Settlement Bethel, Sullivan Co., NY Robert Fulton (steamboat) and my James Fulton may have drawn incorrect conclusions about their relationship based on coincidence of similar names rather than on fact. Robert's father died when he was young and so did James' father, so their understanding of their paternal lines may not have been detailed. If in fact my Robert Fulton arrived 1763, that would suggest that he is a different man than Robert Fulton, the tailor and father of Robert (steamboat) Fulton. So I continue to try to find my Robert Fulton somewhere in PA and make connections back to Londonderry. Patricia, please let us know how you are related to the Abraham Fulton/ Margaret Guthrie family. Thanks, Roberta R.
