Folks, Here is an update from Bernard Butcher on some more Fultons in Beith, Scotland. Roberta R. (Fulton) Hirth Harriman, New York 10926 ************************************************************************* Subject: Fultons in Beith, Scotland Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 13:45:59 EST From: Butcher731@aol.com To: elizabeth.russon@sympatico.ca CC: hirth@frontiernet.net Dear Elizabeth Russon I am in the middle of a trawl for Fultons in Beith, and it reminded me of your message. I have come up with this: Robert Fulton marr. Jean Caldwell in Beith, 7th. June, 1802. The children I have found are - James, c.111th. Jan., 1807, Robert c. 31st. March, 1805, Robert c. 29th. Jan., 1809, Isobel c. 7th. June, 1811. Isobel c. 5th. Sept., 1813, Janet c.14th. March 1819, Jean c.14th. April, 1816, William c. 11th. May, 1817. Assuming that Robert was born in Beith, which is possible but not certain as people did move around quite a lot and also men traditionally are married in their wives church, then I would have thought that there are four possible Robert birth dates. These are 1773, 1774, 1782 and 1783. You may very well be correct in you assumption that the Robert who married Isobel Montgomerie is you first Roberts father, in view of the names, in which case this was their family as far as I can tell: Ann c.9th. August, 1772, Robert c.7th. June, 1774, Andrew c. 24th. Jan 1777, Montgomery c.16th.July, 1779. Not all my dates seem to agree with yours. Mine are from the General Register House, Edinburgh - where did you get yours? Where the same first name is repeated in a family it means of course that the first child died young. However the death registers are useually much more fragmentary than those for births, so no records. I hope this is helpful. Good luck Bernard Butcher <butcher731@aol.com>
