    3. Folks, I came across some information on a FULTON - HAYS family in Greensburg, Westmoreland Co, PA. In the Fulton Family Letter 1987 page 66, it states it is quoting information from Dr. E. D. Moore's transcript written in 1931 regarding Harrison County, Ohio Fultons. Dr. Moore corresponded with Fultons studying other Fulton lines and included a chapter with his correspondence. The Fulton Family Letter quotes the following: "The writer has received a letter from Miss Maude R. Tomlinson of Ardmore, Oklahoma, asking for some information relative to her ancestry: She states that her ancestor was Elizabeth Fulton, born in Londonderry County, Ireland, in 1751, married Samuel Hays, came to America in 1798, settling first in Westmoreland County near Greensburg. In 1803 they settled in Crawford County where Samuel Hays was an Elder in the First Covenanter Church, near Adamsville. Their four children born in Ireland and who came to America with them were: Thomas born 1794; Elizabeth, who married Moses Finley; Janet, married a Mr. Campbell; and Sarah, who married Alexander Montgomery. Rock Glenn Cemetery is the family cemetery. She further states that she has understood that her great-grandfather, Thomas Hays, who moved to Wisconsin with his family in 1845, spoke of being a 2nd cousin to Robert Fulton." So now we have another item to add to our list of possible relationships to Robert FULTON of steamboat fame - don't we just love this. What I find fascinating is how specific this is - not just a cousin, but a 2nd cousin. I looked over the descendancy charts Sue Wilson recently sent to the list with the FULTON, HAYS, CRINER, CRANER links, but I do not see this family listed. Does anyone know how they fit into the bigger picture ? Based on this information, Elizabeth FULTON gave birth to Thomas at age 43 and came to America at age 47. So this was not a young family. I marvel how they had the courage to face the challenges of starting a farm in the wilderness of PA at that point in their lives. These folks must have been very hard-working people. Since Samuel HAYS was a member of the Covenanter church in Ohio, most likely his migration path followed a community of people with the same religious connection. These Covenanters stayed together. Regarding the Dr. Moore's manuscript, the LDS lists the following: (Entry listed in Family History Library Surname Catalog for Fultons p 2857-2858.) LDS US/CAN Book area 929.273 F959m Moore, E. D. (Elliott D.), b. 1864. Some leaves from the Fulton family tree / collected and compiled by E. D. Moore. -- {Boiling Springs, PA: Roy U. Clay, 1983}. -- 88, {16} leaves. Photocopy made of typescript prepared in 1931 by E.D. Moore, New Philadelphia, OH. William Fulton immigrated from Scotland to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1748, moved to Cecil County, Maryland, and served in the Revolutionary War. I have most of this transcript (missing pages 41 and 48, 82-88 and the end leaves), but I could not find the quote in the Moore material that was listed in the Fulton Family Letter regarding this Elizabeth Fulton.
