Although I am not directly related to your John Fulton family, I am interested in this family for two reasons: 1) Potential origins in Lanarkshire, Scotland 2) Early settler of MD and Southeastern PA Here are some suggestions. 1) Family's potential origin in Lanarkshire, Scotland: Hugh Ramsey Fulton places the birth of several of the children of John and Eleanor Fulton in Lanarkshire. Just southwest of Lanarkshire is Ayrshire, an area of substantial Fulton activity in the late 1200's to present. Bernard Butcher has been providing us some primary and secondary source documentation on the Paisley Fultons (check the archives for this information for general background information.) 2) Have you looked in the Old Parochial Registers to determine if you can find the birth of John's children in Lanarkshire, Scotland or the surrounding counties ? 3) Have you researched the records in Maryland for evidence that they lived there for about 7 years somewhere between 1753 and 1762 when they moved to Chester Co, PA ? Or have you looked for the birth of John in 1755 in church records of Maryland or bordering churches in PA or Delaware ? 4) Have you researched some of the families listed as the elders in the Presbyterian Church of Oxford that Hugh Ramsey Fulton lists on page 4 ? From the archives I am sending you a separate note about a William FULTON d 1816, resided Ayrshire, SCT+Lancastrer,PA+Cecil Co, MD, wife=Jean that is dated Tue, 2 Sep 1997 14:41:51. Also I will send you some of the notes on the Richard Fulton and Alexander Fulton lines. You may see something that helps to tie together these early Fulton lines. Do you have a descendancy chart of your family that we could put on this list ? It might help others make connections to this Fulton family. Thanks, Roberta R.
