James Fulton of Augusta County, Va. died in 1753 approx 50 years before Mary Jo's Henry Fulton with son James was born. I have found no Henrys in this branch of the family although not all lines have been followed through to Ky/Tenn. James Fulton is said to have been the immigrant ancestor from Northern Ireland. He was in Augusta County before 1742 when he daughter Eleanor was baptised. Land records indicate he came there around 1739. This family was of the Presbyterian faith. William and John Fulton, sons of James, lived in the Borden grant on Calf Pasture River which is described as a beautiful area of Virginia. You often find an entire or a large portion of a congregation moving to a new location at the same time so you will find the same family names in a new church as those from a prior residence. While James Fulton was associated with a number of folks from Chester and Lancaster Counties in Pennsylvania, I have found no concrete documentation of his residence there. I believe he passed through there from somewhere further north. There is also a reference to an attorney in Maryland. Names we find associated with this branch of Fultons are: Campbell, Lusk, Steele, McCutcheon, Stuart, Givens, Brownlee, Graham, Mitchell, Patton, Beck, and Henderson. The Becks were involved in the Shriver Family Bridgebuilding and road construction. Another interesting fact connected to this branch is their involvement in surveying and road building. Several of the family were surveyors and were also charged with the upkeep of the roads and bridges. Norma Jennings http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jennings/manuscript/fultindx.htm
