    3. Intermission. Have you ever seen the Roberta Hirth laptop database? It's a Rand McNally map of the United States with about a zillion Post-It notes. I assure you, it is Y2K compliant. Now the Stark Reality database, on the other hand, is an old DOS-based genealogy program containing over 10,000 documented Fulton entries. I'll tell you tomorrow if it is Y2K compliant. When we started the "Clark & Ernie" ancestor search, the first step was to narrow down the geographic search area. Roberta carefully opened her map to New York and lo and behold, there were two yellow notes in the same general area. (Actually, there were many yellow notes on the New York page, but there were just two in Ontario County, New York.) The first note identified some Fultons from New Windsor, Ulster County, New York (Hirth/Wolfe research). The second note identified some Fultons from Chanceford, York County, Pennsylvania (Stark/JLFultonJr research). Perhaps now you understand why Roberta and I jumped on this particular genealogy question. By pooling information from our collective databases, we quickly realized that two separate Fulton families settled in the same remote area of New York on the eve of 1800. The New Yorkers: William Fulton and family and widow Elizabeth Fulton and family, who appear in sequential entries on the 1790 US Census, appear in the 1800 US Census of Ontario County. The Pennsylvanians: John Fulton appears on the 1800 US Census of Ontario County and his brother Hugh joins him around 1806/7. OK, I admit it. Roberta and I have written a new "burning question": are these two families related? But Clark and Ernie are waiting for the answer to their question: Who is the daddy of James Fulton (page 107) of Seneca Twp, Ontario County, NY? Perhaps the US Census information will provide us with the answer? Patrice (Fulton) Stark Lone Tree, Colorado
