JAMES4 FULTON (HUGH3, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born 1690 (?) in Diviaghy, Ireland, and died 1753 in Augusta Co., Va.. He married SARAH ------- FULTON. James Fulton was the son of Hugh Fulton and Elinor Johnson who were married February 20, 1680/81 in Denaghy, Ireland. James named his eldest son Hugh and his second daughter was named Ellener (sic), the traditional way of naming children after their grandparents. My own great grandfather also carried on the name of Hugh, the patriarch in Ireland. Virginia on a 637 1/2 acre farm in Beverly Manor and recived title to the land on 25 March 1742 after paying nineteen pounds to Beverly. He was a member of the South Mountain Presbyterian congregation and in 1742 was a member of Capt. John Christian's militia party. He was located 3 miles south of Greenville (present day U.S. Route 11) John Lewis was supposedly the first settler in this area.
