"STEAMBOAT BOBBY" Robert FULTON was born on November 14, 1765, on a farm in Little Britain Township, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert FULTON and Mary SMITH. On January 7, 1808, he married Harriet LIVINGSTON who was born about 1784 in New York. Robert FULTON died of pneumonia at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 23, 1815. He was buried February 25, 1815 at Trinity Church in New York City, New York. On November 26, 1816, Harriet LIVINGSTON FULTON married Charles Augustus DALE. Harriet died in 1826 and was buried in the cemetery of the Claverack Dutch Reformed Church. CHILDREN OF ROBERT FULTON AND HARRIET LIVINGSTON 1. Robert Barlow FULTON was born 10 Oct 1808 in Washington, D.C., and died bef. 1847. He never married. 2. Julia FULTON was born Apr 1810 in New York City, New York, married unknown. 3. Cornelia FULTON was born 6 Aug 1812 at Teviotdale, New York married unknown. 4. Mary FULTON was born in Jul 1814 married unknown. Robert FULTON, Sr. emigrated from Kilkenny, Ireland while a young man. By 1735 he had taken up the trade of tailor in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Robert married Mary SMITH. Robert, Sr. was secretary of the volunteer fire company, a charter member of the Juliana Library, and a founder and dedicated chorister of the First Presbyterian Church. For a brief period he was the assistant burgess of the borough. He augmented his earnings as a tailor by trading in spices and rum. In February 1765 Robert and Mary sold their house and bought at auction a large farm on Conowingo Creek in Little Britain Township, 30 miles to the south of Lancaster. This farm comprised 394 acres in two parcels. In January 1772, they were forced to sell the property at a sheriff's sale. They returned to Lancaster. Robert FULTON, Sr. died in 1774. Mary SMITH FULTON died in 1799. CHILDREN OF ROBERT FULTON AND MARY SMITH Elizabeth "Betsy" FULTON was born in Lancaster, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, married name unknown.
