My response included at end of note. **************************************************************************** Hi Roberta; My name is William Harvey Fulton from British Columbia Canada. I was reading your most interesting Web Page and was wondering if you possibly had any information you would share on my family. It starts with James Fulton, at the age of 20 in 1760 sailed to america the subject of this sketch and who afterwards turned out to be the first settler of Bass River Nova Scotia. His Grandfather ( also Named James ) lived in Londonderry, Ireland, and was killed during the siege of that city. After his death his widow, Eliza Alexander Fulton and her family, John and Mary, moved on a farm to reside. The son John married Ann Boggs, and their family were James, Samuel, Thomas, John, William, David, Francis and Sarah. James before emigrating to New England, was given a good education. James was a land serveyor in New England and Pennsylvania. Later he came to Nova Scotia and was engaged by the Government to make surveys and plans for what is now Colchester County. For this work he was allowed a free grant of land wherever he might choose. He selected Bass River, where he settled about 1765, thus becoming the founder of the place. He married Margaret Campbell, of Folly ( now Glenholme) on Nov 1 1770. Induced by letters to his brothers at home in Ireland, they, with two exceptions - William and David followed him to Nova Scotia. Samuel, with his wife Mary Boggs, the first English-speaking woman at Bass River, arrived about 1769 or 1770. The above information I aquirerd out of a old news paper, The Truro Weekly News dated July 15 1965, to mark the 200th Anniversay of Bass River. It payed tribute to memory of the founder, Judge James Fulton. Anything information you may be able to provide about these folks would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely Harvey Fulton ******************************************************************************* Dear Harvey, I have searched the Fulton discussion list archives and have sent you some of the old notes posted regarding this family. Do you have access to the book "The Fulton Family of Atlantic Canada" Sponsored by the Fulton Family Associates Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, 1979 ? It has extensive information on this Fulton line. Perhaps some of the Fulton researchers on the Fulton discussion list can add some more information about this Nova Scotia family. Roberta R.
