    1. Fulton Summer Part 3
    2. The following is list of land transactions that involve a specific parcel of land owned by Samuel Fulton. I don't think this is the same parcel of land I refer to in previous post. In the 1801 deed, the history of this parcel is given in detail. This land is sold amongst multiple Fultons and deeds give many valuable Fulton clues. I'm going to try to summarize info so you can follow. When a wife is mentioned I include her name. This land was sold amongst many Fultons. (I wish I would have had time to look up grantees!) July 5, 1788 - Samuel acquired two adjacent tracts of land in Ohio Co., VA. #1: He paid two pound sterling to Virginia for 400 acres along Ohio River, including land along the Ohio River he made improvements on in 1774. This land begins on banks of Short Creek and extends to banks of Ohio River. Samuel was an assignee of Thomas Edgington, who was an assignee of William Haskins/Hawkins. (Note: William Hawkins actually settled here for a short time - but was terrified of the Indians and moved back east.) #2: Samuel (assignee of John Stephenson) was granted 200 acres lying along Ohio River. This parcel adjoins land of John Wilson, John McCulloch and a Fulton settlement. I can't tell if this is another Fulton or Samuel. Quote" . . . . 93 degrees to a hickory corner to Fulton settlement and with his line N88 degrees . . . " 1791 - Samuel Fulton, of Ohio Co., VA, sold Jonas Mentzer (Mencer) 26 ½ acres of land on the Ohio River for 45 pounds. (In 1801 deed it mentions that Jonas and his wife Susana sell this land to John Fulton. Date of deed - May 5, 1795) 1792 - Samuel and Jane Fulton of Ohio Co., VA, sold Alexander Fulton of the town of Washington, land for twenty pounds. Land adjoins line and corner of David Chambers land and David Chambers mill dam on Short Creek. June 1, 1795 - Alexander Fulton of Washington Co., PA, sells John Fulton of Ohio Co., VA, the tract of land Alexander bought from Samuel and Jane in 1792, for $60. (John apparently also bought adjacent Mentzer/Mencer land in May 1795.) 1797 - John Fulton of Ohio Co., VA, sells Sarah Chambers of same county, a parcel of land supposed to contain 9 acres, lying on Short Creek. This land lies next to Chamber's mill dam on creek. 1799 - Samuel Fulton of the Commonwealth of Virginia, sold John Fulton of the same county, parcel of land for 100 Spanish milled dollars. No acreage mentioned, just typical trees, stakes, etc., Ohio River and Short Creek and the parcel of land Samuel sold to Jonas Mentzer (Mencer), which is now in the possession of John Fulton. Only Samuel signs this deed (no Jane). May 5, 1801 - James and Jane Fulton, Ohio Co., VA, sold/rented William McKennon land for $159. I'm not sure this is same land from description. Interest (6% in 1801!) default of payment, rents and profits and terms used in this contract signed by James & Jane Fulton and William McKennon. May 5, 1801 - Samuel & his wife Jane Fulton and John Fulton of Ohio Co., VA, sell Ignatius Simms a total of 585 ½ acres for $4,684 U.S. money. This land contains all the original land Samuel owned except for two tracts: the one sold to Sarah Chambers and a 3 ½ acre tract on the creek, John Fulton sold to James Fulton. (No date mentioned - didn't find this deed between John and James in search.) Question: Why didn't Jane Fulton sign (rather mark - she could not write) with Samuel on deed to John in 1799? Were wives required to sign/mark? She is requested to appear before court in 1801 when they sell all their land and move to Ohio. I also found it interesting that Alexander may have owned some of this land, but did he live there? Deeds only record his residence as being in "town of Washington" which I'm certain means Washington, PA (In Washington Co., PA). Still lots of questions - but putting the pieces together! More to follow when I get time to type this stuff up. Lynn (Fulton) England
