    3. Continuing with the Fulton and Wynkoop family connections... About six years ago, a woman came to my home in Niwot, Colorado, and identified herself as the mother of one of my Fulton correspondents. She was here in Colorado and asked if she could tape-record my thoughts on her Fulton family. So, this dear woman and I sat in my unfinished basement for hours as I pulled records out of my "Fulton Archives." She wanted to know more about Elisha Wynkoop Fulton. Small world, isn't it? Elisha Wyncoop Fulton was born 6 Oct 1793 at Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia. He was the oldest of five children born to Robert and Sarah (Powell) Fulton. This couple married at Loudoun Co, VA, 11 Sep 1792. Sarah was the daughter of Elisha Powell. >From her research, she told me that these were the children of Robert and Sarah (Powell) Fulton: 1-Elisha Wynkoop Fulton, b 1793, d 20 Oct 1866 at Bainbridge, Indiana 2-Robert Massie Fulton 3-David Powell Fulton, b 1797, m 1821, Jane E. Carr 4-John Fulton 5-William Fulton Checking the surviving tax records of Loudoun County, Virginia, I found that a Robert Fulton first paid taxes at Shelburne Parish beginning in 1775. Shelburne Parish, organized in 1770, was created from the western part of Cameron Parish and included the land west of Goose Creek running to the Blue Ridge. Shelburne Parish is bounded by Berkeley County, VA, on the west. Robert Fulton Sr. of Loudoun County, Virginia, signed his Will on 2 January 1792 and it was proved on 10 October 1798. [Ref: Loudoun County Will Book F (1797-1802), page 55. Photocopy of recorded instrument from LDS Film 0032276, “Book F, page 54.”] “…all my Estate to my son Robert … provided that he shall keep my loving wife in all things necessary during her life … my son Robert shall pay my son David ten shillings at my wife’s Death … unto my Daughter Leanah one Cow over & above what I have lent her … unto my Daughter Molly/Melly? [no dot over the second letter] twenty five pounds … unto my son James fifty pounds and in case my son James and Daughter Molly/Melly should die without lawful issue, then in That case it shall fall to my Son Robert and in case my son Robert should die without lawful Issue and my Son James & Daughter Melly should survive They shall fall Heir to my said son Robert’s part, my son James Drawing two shares my son Robert is to pay all my Lawful Debts and have my Estate appraised after my Death … my sons Robert, and James to be my Executors … seal this Second day of January one thousand Seven hundred and ninety two.” Robert Fulton (Seal), Teste: John Binns and Aaron Sanders. Will proved 10 October 1798 by witnesses. Robert and James Fulton, executors, with James McKinney, Aaron Sanders and William Middleton their Securities. Robert Fulton Sr. of Loudoun County, Virginia wife alive in 1792 (not named in Will) son Robert Fulton Jr. (to care for widow) son David Fulton son James Fulton dau Leanah Fulton dau Molly/Melly Fulton (if "Molly" then her birthname might be Mary) Is Elisha Wyncoop Fulton, b 1793, the grandson of Robert Fulton who signed his Will in January 1972 (and died abt 1798)? It's possible. Note the statement, "...in case my son Robert should die without issue" which implies that there is not a known heir in Jan 1792. Robert Fulton, father of Elisha Wyncoop Fulton, married in September 1792, and the oldest child, Elisha, was born the following year, 1793. Perhaps the father of Elisha is Robert Fulton Jr? The unusual name "Wyncoop" suggests that Robert Fulton Sr. of Loudoun County, VA, who first appears on the tax record in 1775, may be the same Robert Fulton who married Eleanor Wyncoop on 20 August 1755 at the Christ Church in Philadelphia. If, as suggested here, Robert Fulton who married Sarah Powell in 1792 is the son of this couple, then we're building a case for a connection to David Fulton of Lower Dublin Twp who owned land next to Thomas Powell, deceased, in 1753. David Fulton of Lower Dublin Twp, Pennsylvania (alive in 1753) with land adjacent to Thomas Powell, deceased 1. Robert Fulton, m 1755, Eleanor Wynkoop of Manor of Moreland 2. Robert Fulton m 1792, Sarah Powell, dau of Elisha Powell 3. Elisha Powell Fulton, b 1793 Fascinating. In 1792, Mary Fulton married Zebulon Warner at Berkeley Co, VA. (See Part 5). They named a son, Wyncoop Warner. According to the published Fulton/Hayden/Warner Genealogy, Mary Fulton is the daughter of a John Fulton of Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Northampton County is just north of the Manor of Moreland. Patrice (Fulton) Stark Lone Tree, Colorado
