Hello listers, An old boy once told me that, when you are looking really hard, if you unfocus your eyes, and change the angle of your head, you see things you never saw before. So, with unfocused eyes and little detail, here is what I observe about FULTON, DAVIS and other names that appear in Volume 00: Issue 72. The geographic area is Indiana's "Gore", Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland Counties. The time frame is 1798 - 1820. First to arrive were John FULTON and his sons Samuel and Thomas plus Samuel's brother-in-law Christopher HUSTON. See Ann Irwin's earlier, excellent observations and information regarding this group. Daniel B. JAYNE, b. 1781, arrived with his wife, Catherine DAVIS around 1815. Daniel B. is son of Timothy JAYNE and Sarah ALLEN of (lastly) Northampton Co PA. Timothy, a Rev War vet, was born Suffolk Co LI NY and died in 1790 after he plunged into the lake at Ithaca NY to retrieve a deer. Timothy was grandson of William JAYNE and Elizabeth WOODHULL. Don't know what passed with Daniel B. JAYNE after his father, Timothy, left a will naming his wife, Sarah, and their children. Only that he married about 1802-3, served in the War of 1812 and had several children before he arrived in Indiana. He was a farmer and owned land, a sawmill and grist mill in Dearborn/Ohio Co. The Dearborn/Ohio Co IN probate record of Daniel B. Jayne states, in part, that the final settlement paid to his heir and son, Daniel Boone Jayne, was signed for by one Thomas DAVIS 4 May 1859. An uncle, perhaps? Daniel B. JAYNE's daughters Sarah/Sally b. 1807 and Roxie b. 1809 married Isaac SMITH and Simeon SMITH (presumeably brothers) same day, 4 Apr 1829, in Switzerland Co IN. Then, referencing the Sadsbury Twp 1790 Census. To my knowledge, other early families in this same area of Indiana were MARSH and JACK, all from PA, all intermarried with the families already listed. Makes one wonder. Patterns? Myrna Madigan
