    3. I am posting this to the list, for others might have the same question: Mary wrote: -----Original Message----- Date: Thursday, May 04, 2000 11:56 AM Subject: Re: [FULTON] Robert Fulton - Steamboat\Ayrshire Man? Part 2 >This version of who is the REAL Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat, >does not mesh with the recorded history of Robert Fulton, born in Lancaster >co, PA. Am I imagining something here????? Mary Ann Phillips Hi Mary, If you re-read the begining of part 1,even back then, there were different stories going around of who Robert Fulton was and where he came from; "Mr W S Lindsay, the author of the extensive and well known work on Merchant Shipping, made a careful examination of thequestion, but without a satisfactory result. " Mr Lindsay said without staisfactory results. So, at the end of his research he (Mr. Lindsay) proved the Robert Fulton born in Beith, Mr Stevenson talked about could not have been of the Steamboat fame, because it appears he died in the island of Antiqua ,years after we know Robert Fulton of the Steamboat fame died in NYC. I have another article where Mr Bell, the famous engineer of Scotland who 1811 built the steambaot the Comet, states Mr Robert Fulton , who built the 1st American stamboat, visted with him on many ocations. I will post that later. It certinly raises a few questions!! Florence F Wolfe fwolfe@ frontiernet.net
