    1. Fulton + Wynkoop (Pt 22)

    3. Yes, here is even more information about the Fulton and Wynkoop family connections... In our last episode (Pt 21), we toured Philadelphia and marveled at the lovely Christ Church and tried to imagine the Fulton marriages that took place there in August and October 1755. Robert Fulton m Eleanor Wynkoop (20 Aug 1755) David Fulton m Elizabeth Yerkes (15 Oct 1755) Roberta Hirth shared her contribution, excerpts from the 1769 tax lists of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. I summarized two separate David Fulton households, David of Cheltenham (d 1757), and David who married the widow Wynkoop (1762). At that point, I called it good, put my head down, and fell asleep for two weeks. While I was sleeping, many of you were busily hunting Fultons at your local research library. Thank you all! Here's some absolutely new Fulton information for anyone that has a Wynkoop in their Fulton family tree. * * * * * Robert Fulton, d 1798, at Loudoun County, Virginia Question: Is he the man who married Eleanor Wynkoop in 1755? Correspondents Carolyn Proctor, Donna Price, and Donna's friend Susan Wetzl, found additional clues regarding this Robert Fulton who has at least one grandson carrying the Wynkoop name, Elisha Wynkoop Fulton, b 1793. Susan discovered a reference to a Loudoun County deed recorded 18 April 1775 between the Oxley family and "Robert Fulton, yeoman of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Hilltown Township." That's new! Earlier, Carolyn found that Robert Fulton witnessed the Will of Henry Oxley of Loudoun Co, VA, on 6 February 1776, and Oxley's Will was proved in Court on 13 October 1777 by "R. F. Fulton", Brittain Oxley and Ann Oxley. Things are really coming together! I've asked for more information. If anyone is game to join the Fulton hunt, be sure to obtain as many details as possible especially the Deed Book number, page number, and all names mentioned. A photocopy of the actual reference, if possible, is really helpful. Who was Henry Oxley of Loudoun County? What was his relationship to Robert Fulton of Bucks County, Pennsylvania? Was Robert Fulton simply a land buyer or is there an undiscovered family connection? Does this information affect our primary question? Could Robert Fulton "of Bucks County" (prior to 1775) be the same Robert Fulton who married Eleanor Wynkoop in 1755 at Philadelphia? I did not foresee the Bucks County connection but it is consistent with the known family of Garret Wynkoop born at Kingston, NY, who was an elder at the Abington Church in the Manor of Moreland (1728) and who moved to Bucks County (1730) and was elected elder at the Neshaminy Church. This Fulton-Wynkoop research will continue. * * * * * David Fulton of Shepardstown, Berkeley County, Virginia Question? What became of David Fulton who married Elizabeth Yerkes in 1755? Susan Wetzl also identified an excellent candidate for this David Fulton. We know that Elizabeth Yerkes was the daughter of Anthony Yerkes of the Manor of Moreland. We also know that a David Fulton paid taxes at the Manor of Moreland in 1769 and was a member of Josiah Hart's militia unit during the Revolution. Susan submits that there is a Will of a David Fulton, recorded 1795 at Berkeley Co, Virginia (present West Virginia), with David Fulton Jr. and Anthony Fulton, named administrators! This Fulton + Yerkes research will continue under the heading "Fulton + Yerkes." * * * * * I found a couple of goodies, too. But that's another story. Patrice (Fulton) Stark Lone Tree, Colorado
