Folks, At the end of November, 1998, I received this note from Bob Fulton and he also joined us at the 1999 Fulton reunion at Salt Lake City. As I recall, at Salt Lake City we had discussed the significance of the name Miles in your family and the Miles Cochran name in the widow Agnes line as a possible lead. I have found some other information about Fultons in that area that may be helpful. I hope you have been following the notes on the list regarding John Fulton b 1713 Sct, emigrated 1753 to Norristown, Chester Co, PA. Jennifer Fulton <jenibear@swbell.net> states that his son James Fulton b 1791 near Howard, Centre Co, PA, d 1850, m Mary Ann McMullen. (I am still waiting for Jennifer to tell us the source of her information). Review the following note on the Fulton-L archives: a) Subject: Norristown Fultons in PA ca 1753 Dated: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 06:56:39 -0800 (PST) which includes the note: b) Subject: Peter McMullen Fulton 1869 IL Dated: Wed, 23 Apr 1997 21:04:53 -0400 Mr. Leonard A. Fulton from Bothell, WA, was a Fulton researcher who contributed data to the Fulton Newsletter on the Peter M. Fulton of Jo Daviess Co, IL branch. A few months ago by accident as I was filing papers, I came across a letter he had written 2 Sept 1983 to a J. Marvin Lee at State College, PA. My sister Florence had discovered this letter when she was in Bellfonte, PA doing some research on her husband's family (non-Fulton), but briefly checked a Fulton file. The location of the letter is: Marvin Lee, Books 70-77B Centre Co Library and Museum Bellefonte, PA In this letter he mentions the following: "I wrote to Dr. Parkinson and received a reply. He is my third cousin, once removed. We have exchanged much information. It seems that his family, the Parkinsons moved to JoDaviess Co., Ill. prior to my great uncle Peter Fulton. I found that my grandfather Ira Fulton and James Parkinson III joined Co. E of the 15th Illinois Infantry on the same date May 24, 1861." Until I received your letter I had not realized that Hannah had any children by her second husband. Dr. Parkinson lists Centre Co. Estate File No. 3323 as the source for the information of Hannah's maiden name Wardon and the names of all the children, both McMullen and Parkinson. I also wrote to Janice L. Struble and my letter was returned as she moved. I plan to write to Mr Ron Shirk to see if he can help find her for me as he lives in Littleton, Colorado, too. Sherk has written a book titled "Sherk-Shirk Freundschaft" published in 1982. I am interested in the Shirks because my great aunt Rebecca Fulton married Jacob Shirk of Centre Co." I had not realized that Leonard A. Fulton's research tied into the Shirk family until reading this. So then I went to the Fulton Family Newsletters. Shirk is not indexed in the newsletter, even though it is mentioned. Leonard's data starts with James Fulton, generation 1 listed below, and is found in the Fulton Family Letter 1989 pages 12,13,14,17,18,19, 1990 page 72, 1991 page 26. He references the book Portrait and Biographical Album, Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties, Illinois, Capman Brothers, 1889, pages 719-721. Notice that I am taking the time to type not only the names/ dates but also the locations so we can see if there are any patterns that tie-in to where your Margaret or subsequent generations were located. Melissa Ann Jeffers 1989 close tie to Ruble family in PA This probably fits into Leonard's data above under "3 Peter FULTON in 1889 attending school at Le Mars, Iowa" Centre Co, PA was formed in 1800 from Lycoming Co, Mifflin Co Northumberland Co, ?Huntingdon Co. (disagreement in my reference books about Huntingdon). So if we wanted to look up land records for a potential father of James Fulton b ca 1791 near Bald Eagle Creek near Howard we would have to determine what county Howard was in pre-1791 because its deeds will not be in current Centre Co, PA. Also in the Fulton Newsletter 90:p39-40 and 90:p72 is outlined another family in Centre Co, PA. On page 39 it lists "source unknown, Photcopy of pages 351-353 with 'Southeastern Nebraska' at the top of the page." It is a biographical sketch of Wesley M. Fulton, so the source may have been a history "mug" book that was common in the late 1800s early 1900s. The information discussed outlines the following relationships: 1 Jacob FULTON b PA served war 1812, Scots-Irish extraction 2 John R. Roberta, Truly a small world!!! My wife, Marge is a direct SHIRK descendant. Her Grandmother was a Shirk and we have been engaged in researching her family for a number of years. I don't pretend to be the genealogist, so I'm not sure of any connections, but we'll check it out and see where it leads. My what a tangled web we weave. Thanks, Bill "Roberta (Fulton) Hirth" wrote: > > Folks, > At the end of November, 1998, I received this note from Bob Fulton > and he also joined us at the 1999 Fulton reunion at Salt Lake City. > > "robert l fulton" <norway@raex.com> wrote: > > Hi my name is Bob Fulton and I'm a dentist in the Akron/Cleveland > > Ohio area.
