    3. At Salt Lake City, when we were trying to help Ernie and Clark Fulton with their line, Pat Stark outlined the following on the index card and provided more detail in the note on this list in "Fultons of Ontario Co, NY (Pt7): 1 Samuel FULTON + Elizabeth STEWART 2 James FULTON d 1800 + Margaret COOK (Stewart Gen 1927 incorrectly lists her as a HARRIS) Based on Donegal Springs Pres Church, Lancaster Co PA catechism roll of 1776 and transcribed in the Pennsylvania Archives, 5th series 1926, you listed their children as: 3 Samuel FULTON buys ferry 1789 with Hugh and John, d by 1807 3 Hugh FULTON, adm in 1807 to Samuel's will, of Lower Chanceford twp, York Co, PA, sells ferry in 1808 with John Fulton, Lincoln, NY and deceased brother Samuel + Rebecca ??REED, Joseph REED of Chanceford Twp, York Co, PA will 5 Oct 1804 menitons grandaughter Margaret Fulton (** See Note 1) 3 John FULTON of Lincoln, Ontario Co, NY in 1808 3 James FULTON (you feel the transcription had Joseph FULTON listed, but should be James due to above the line abbreviations Jas vs Jos) 3 Elizabeth FULTON 3 Mary FULTON b after 1776 based on Margaret Fulton's will 2 John FULTON alive in 1770, a smith 2 Samuel FULTON Based on information from Ontario Co, Florence and I have pieced together from deeds, wills, cemetery transcriptions, newspaper obits, county histories, the following which would fit into the Hugh, James, John above: (everyone - please note this is a "working document" and should not be accepted as valid until I have had time to show where all the sources came from, which when we weigh the evidence some sources will carry more weight than others and we may want to re-evaluate and discard some data - also I make mistakes. If you see my mistakes, please don't be shy. Bring them out on the list. We are using this list as a forum for discussion to try to sort things out. 3 Hugh FULTON b ca 1764 in PA d. 22 June 1846 age 82 years, buried in Seneca Pres Cemetery + Rebecca b ca 1775 in PA, d. 10 March 1846 age 71 buried in Seneca Pres Cemetery 4 ? THOMPSON b Oct 1898 7 Helen M. THOMPSON b 1903 Easton, PA 4 Joseph H FULTON + Clarissa Pat, in a version of this I sent to you last week, I had by accident left out Joseph H Fulton above and did not clearly show the break for Joseph Fulton/Isabella below. ********************************************************** I am using the generation levels of 4 and 3 to help me sort out potentially which generation level they may fit into the broader picture. 4 Joseph FULTON b ca 1782, d 15 Apr 1862 80 yrs d in Phelps twshp, buried Seneca Presb Cemetery an elder of Seneca Pres Church 1827-1856 a Joseph Fulton is a witness to numerous wills in Seneca Twp, Ontario Co, NY + Isabella "Peggy" b ca 1779 d 15 June 1863 age 84 received in Seneca Presb Church 13 Apr 1814 I do not know where the Joseph b ca 1782 above fits in, but since he is in the same cemetery as James (below) and Hugh (above) and he is an elder in the same church as James and John (below), it suggests a connection. His age would suggest he could be a child of James or John or Hugh. I do not believe he is a child of Hugh because Hugh already has a child Joseph H Fulton with wife Clarissa. And Joseph b ca 1782 has a wife Isabella. And Clarissa appears as wife to Joseph H in a deed 1847. Based on the tombstone inscription, Isabella is still alive in 1847. So that is why Joseph H Fulton cannot be the same man as Joseph b ca 1782. And being a member of the Pres Church, he would not adhere to taking multiple wives. 3 James FULTON (my conjecture brother to Hugh Fulton b ca 1764 in PA) b ca 1769, d 9 May 1849 age 80 buried in Seneca Pres Cemetery charter member of Seneca Pres Church 1807 perhaps this is the James who deeded land to John Hine in 1798 that is directly north of J.P. Fulton's land on the farm map in Stanley, NY. + Hannah b ca 1784, d. 20 Aug 1839 age 55 based on her age, James most likely had other marriages before buried in Seneca Pres Cemetery 4 Margaret FULTON b ca 1802, d 20 Sept 1841 age 39 buried in Seneca Pres Cemetery ** Note 1: Pat, you were not sure where the REED connection fits in. I believe you had conjectured that Rebecca b ca 1775 in PA who is the wife of Hugh FULTON ba ca 1764 in PA might be a REED. Is it possible that instead it might relate to the James and Hannah since there is a Margaret Fulton (do not know if she is a daughter) who is buried in their plot in the Seneca Number 9 Cemetery in Ontario Co, NY. REED is listed as a geographic feature in Ontario County. We will have to see if there are REEDS in Ontario Co, NY who might shed some light on this family. 3 John FULTON (my conjecture brother to Hugh Fulton b ca 1764 in PA) founding elder of Seneca Pres Ch 22 Oct 1807 I believe the John mentioned in the York Co PA ferry right in 1808 who resides in Lincoln, NY at that time + Hannah also joined church 22 Oct 1807 ** Note 2: Capt John Rippey MAY help us to tie together the PA and NY Fultons in terms of being an acquaintance to both groups. His grandaughter is married into the PA line as shown above. And the Ontario history books says he was always with George Washington. Since George Washington wintered his army at the New Winsdor Cantonment, which is a few miles from where William Fulton and possible his mother/aunt Elizabeth Fulton lived in the 1790 census, and since William was in the Revolutionary War, he may have known Capt Rippey. Based on Gen Sullivan's campaigns in the Revolutionary War in upstate New York, the soldiers were familiar with the land in the Ontario Co, NY area. It was incredibly rich and fertile and became available for sale very cheaply in 1789. I have read accounts where new land in Ohio was settled by Revolutionary War soldiers from different states, but it turns out they were all buddies in the Continental Army. That may be a factor in the settlement of Ontario Co, NY. Roberta R. (Fulton) Hirth Harriman, New York 10926 FULTON web page at: http://www.frontiernet.net/~elisa96/hirth/fulton.htm
