PA (his gr-grandmother) Dear Lloyd, According to Willis Knox's charts on the widow Agnes line, several children of Henry E. Fulton b 1811 Clarion Co, Pa were born in Mercer Co, PA in the mid 1800's, so perhaps your Sarah has connections to the Widow Agnes line. Can you tell us more about the Fulton farm ? What is your source of proof that Robert and Isabella are her parents ? The Widow Agnes line was well documented by Robert Fulton, late editor of The Fulton Family Letter, who researched the Widow Agnes line and published a book called "The Family of Agnes Fulton" in 1980 and a revision in 1988. The LDS Salt Lake City US/CAN Film area 1321152 item 5. Its catalog describes it as follows: "Agnes Fulton (1750-1826) with her four sons immigrated from Ireland to Philadelphia in 1794, and settled in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Nebraska, California, Louisiana, Florida and elsewhere. Includes Fulton, Blankenbaker, Flitcraft, Hendrick, Hunsicker, Meyers and related families." The Fulton Family Newsletter has much information on this line. For those not familiar with "The Widow Agnes," she came to America in 1794 with four sons, landing in Philadelphia after a voyage of thirteen weeks and three days. From there they went to Westmoreland County, where Robert, one of the sons, died. They remained there until the spring of 1801, when they, with other families in the same vicinity, moved to what is now Clarion County, PA, settling near the town of Clarion. The other three sons were James, Henry, and Cochran. Some believe that Agnes knew Abraham and Margaret (Guthry/Guthrie) Fulton who settled at Westmoreland Co. prior to 1780. These Fultons sailed from near Coleraine, [Northern] Ireland in 1772. In a note 5 May 1997, Pat Stark wrote: "You may wish to study the history of the Presbyterian Church. The widow Agnes Fulton family was closely tied to the "Associate Presbyterian Church" also known as the "Seceders." The graves are carefully tended at Clarion Co. in the Seceder Cemetery. While visiting the original church in Articlave, Northern Ireland, we learned that many Fultons were members of the nearby Associate Presbyterian Church known as the 2nd Dunboe Church. If Agnes was from this area, this was probably her home church." A Fulton reunion was held in 1995 in Northern Ireland and Scotland. A photo of the first Dunboe Church can be seen at: http://www.frontiernet.net/~elisa96/hirth/wwpg7.htm and inlcudes Willis Knox and Homer Fulton who are researching the widow Agnes line. Widow Agnes researchers: 1) Willis Knox Willis Knox from Kelso, Washington <dasklar@tdn.com> 2) Homer Fulton from Canton, Ohio <hjf76@dellnet.com> 3) Ben Fulton from Bloomington, IN <fulton@kiva.net> At one time Ben had a searchable database of the widow Agnes line, but I could not find it. His personal homepage is at http://www.kiva.net/~fulton/ 4) Lori & Percy London, Atlanta, GA <plondon@bellsouth.net> 5) Widow Agnes web page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Park/4321/fulton.html Although William Fulton is listed as the husband to widow Agnes on this web site, that has not been proved. Abraham Fulton/Margaret Gurthrie researchers: Georgeann Malowney <georgeann@email.msn.com> lists the other researchers who are studying the Abraham Fulton / Margaret Guthrie lines on her web page at http://www.IrishGenealogy.com/ She also has descendancy charts of this Fulton branch online. ROOTSWEB has now provided a menu-driven interface to search the archives of the discussion lists. It can be reached at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Specify fulton-l as the list and whatever search string you want to use. For example search for steamboat and you will see the old notes on THE Robert Fulton. Search for timeline and you will see information I have put there on very early Fultons. Search for widow Agnes or Guthrie or Guthry or Westmoreland for additional information. If you are interested in obtaining the copies of the old Fulton newsletters, let me know. In the IGI, there are two entries for Sarah: Sarah Fulton, spouse James Montgomery m abt 1808 of Crawford, PA film number 2034526. Sarah Fulton, spouse James Montgomery m abt 1801 Westmoreland, PA, film number 1760864. You may want to check out both of them. Also check out the USGENWEB project at http://www.usgenweb.org/statelinks.html and go to Mercer county, PA. They have a nice township map and a fascinating history book online. It describes one of the early pioneer women who went to get the family cow from the hillside and was surrounded by timber rattlesnakes. Her hushand and neighbor counted about 200 of them before they were able to rescue her from the nearby dogwood tree, which she had climbed up for safety. Roberta R.
