    3. Dear Researchers, This note will focus on the digital images of original NYC probate documents that give the death date of Robert [Barlow] Fulton, the son of THE Robert Fulton, as 29 Feb 1840, with no wife and no children. Roberta Hirth ********************************************************************************** On Ancestry.com, I did a search in its database "New York, Wills and Probate Records, 1659-1999" for Robert(exact) Fulton (exact) b 1777 d 1846 (exact) Ohio [was searching for records for Robert Fulton of Zanesville] and the records of Robert Fulton, son of THE Robert Fulton, were part of the search results. These probate documents list the death of Robert [Barlow] Fulton, the son of Robert Fulton as 29 Feb 1840. The documents also list his sisters as Julia, now the wife of Charles Blight, - Cornelia L. now the wife of Edward C. Crary, and Mary L., now the wife of Robert M. Ludlow- R note: I suspect the heirs decided to formally execute intestate probate for Robert Barlow Fulton's estate on 31 August 1846 because Congress had just passed the law in July 1846 to pay the heirs of THE Robert Fulton, about thirty one years after his death, when the balance due to his estate was adjudged to be $76,300. ********************************************************************************* Item #1: Charles Augustus Dale appointed Executor of THE RF will on 13 May 1826 in NYC; son Robert Fulton, still a minor, to become the Executor at age 21. http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=PNq1332&_phstart=successSource,successSource&usePUBJs=true,true&indiv=1&db=USProbateNY,USProbateNY&gss=angs-d&new=1,1&rank=1,1&msT=1,1&gsfn=Robert,Robert&gsfn_http://search.ancestry.com//cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=PNq1332&gsfn_x=1&gsln=Fulton,Fulton&gsln_x=1,1&MSAV=1,1&uidh=sz2,sz2&pcat=36&h=848207,848207&ml_rpos=1 Robert Fulton in the New York, Wills and Probate Records, 1659-1999 Name: Robert Fulton Probate Place: New York, New York, USA Inferred Death Place: New York, USA Item Description: Wills, Vol 060, 1825-1826 image 1 of 292 LDS microfilm 874544 image 2 of 292: NY 1-50; Roll No. 29 image 3 of 292: Locality of Record: New York County, Surrogate Office, Surrogates Court Bldg, State of New York Title of Record: Wills Vol 60 Yrs 1825 1826 Microfilmed for The Genealogical Society of Salt Lake City, Filmed at New York City, NY. 3. Dear Researchers, The correct death date of THE Robert Fulton is 23 Feb 1815. Many sources incorrectly list the death date as 24 Feb 1815. The sources of the correct date is based on the following : 1) Death notice in a local evening newspaper in New York City on the day of his death. 2) Harriet Fulton's Petition to Congress Details are listed below. Transcript is below.] DIED On the 23d. inst. ROBERT FULTON, Esq. of a fever, which had confined him for several days. During life he possessed polish and refinement in an eminent degree. His social qualities were of the highest order. In works of taste, and in eve- ry thing belonging to the fine arts, he was a great proficient. To all these attainments, excellent as they are, he added the powers of an incentive mind. There he applied to improve the useful arts, by combining the forces of chemistry and mechani- [Roberta Note: goes to top of 5th column] ics. He became by the efforts of his own under- standing, an engineer of rare attainments. He had accomplished the navigation of rivers and sounds by boats, propelled by steam, and thereby incalculably facilitated transportation and travel- ling. He was engaged in conjunction with the Committee of Coast and Harbour Defence, in con- structing a vessel of war, to be moved by the same means. This grand engine of annoyance was with- in a few weeks of completion when the news of peace reached the country & its ingenious & incom- parable inventor was called away to another world. He had achieved great things for his native land. He had conceived many more important projects for the general good. He was in the vigour of his age, and the full career of his usefulness. His loss may be truly considered a national concern. Sincerely will his death be lamented - long will his name be cherished and respected. This is a mere impromp- tu - a sketch that falls from the pen of instant feel- ing. His biographer will do his memory ample justice: on the page of history must be spread the materials of his imperishable fame. Irreparable is this mournful accident to his surviving partner and promising babes; but in the midst of our grief and condolence, we must bow with reverence to the Almighty fiat, and say, Even so Lord, thy right- eous will be done. ************************************************************************************* Item #3: Request to attend funeral I did not take scans of this item, but made a notation in my notebook that the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York was making a request of its members to attend Robert Fulton's funeral. 3. Dear Fulton Researchers, On 1/7/2020 I received the following shocking announcement from ROOTSWEB support: *******beginning of announcement "Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team" *******end of announcement As a result, I am in the process of setting up Fulton-Genealogy mailing list on GROUPS.IO I will let you know when it is ready. Regards, Roberta R. 3. I am looking for information on the family history Columbus Daniel Fulton (born 14 July 1873 we believe near Birmingham, Alabama) or his mother. Mother’s name was Mary Ann; she also used a nickname of Eliza or Elisa. Mary Ann we believe was born around 1855. She came to Arkansas with her son when he was young. He (Columbus Daniel) married Nancy (Nannie) Estelle Hill, and he died in Delight, Arkansas September 14, 1938. Any information on his father or Mary Ann’s parents wouldl be much appreciated.

    1. [FULTON] Restrictions to Size of Notes
    2. Roberta (Fulton) Hirth
    3. Referenced Note: From: Evelyn .. <ej1357@gmail.com> Subject: [FULTON] Re: FULTON Digest, Vol 13, Issue 1 TO: fulton@rootsweb.com Date: 5/9/2018 8:57 AM [EDT] Evelyn asked, "So what new limits to the email has Ancestry put on Rootsweb? (Ancestry owns Rootsweb)" ANSWER: The list administrator has the ability to set a limit on the size of notes that are sent to each list. Back in about 1999, I set this size to 50 KB, which at that time was the largest that ROOTSWEB would allow. This was a function provided by ROOTSWEB before Ancestry.com took it over. The main reason for the function is to prevent digest mode subscribers from inadvertently sending very large messages to the list in error. Some mail programs, but not all, include all the text of the original mail into the reply. In digest mode on a very active list, this could mean 100 pages or more. Often the users are not aware this is happening because their mail program shows only one line of the original message as they are writing their reply, even though it sends all the contents of the original message. Some internet providers charge their users by the amount of data they receive, so it is important to monitor this. As an administrator, I can manually override the held message and let it be distributed, but I cannot alter it to remove the excess original note that may be on a different topic. If this happens to anyone's note, please do not be embarrassed. It happens to me, too! I will just contact you privately and ask you to resend the note to the list without the extraneous content or to shorten the note and make it a multi-part note. We are here together to help each other's research. I believe that Ancestry.com allows an even higher limit on the size of the messages than ROOTSWEB's original upper limit of 50 KB, but for now I prefer to leave it at that level. In the past, those of us who wrote long messages, which includes me, would send it out as multiple emails with the same subject line and append Part 1, Part 2, etc., in the subject line. Most readers do not like to scroll through excessively huge notes in their email browsers. Also, I encourage all to use a subject line that is relevant to the topic they are writing about. It helps the reader to assess the nature of the email. Thanks, Roberta R. 3. Dear FULTON Rootsweb subscribers, My name is Roberta Hirth and I am the administrator for the FULTON list at Rootsweb, which I originally created in 1996. In the beginning of this year, all ROOTSWEB lists were suspended and made not operational because of security weaknesses. The lists are now back up after modernization and security upgrades. There are approximately 150 subscribers to the FULTON list. The FULTON archives of about 3365 messages has NOT been restored by the programmers because of its inactivity. New messages will be sent to the FULTON archives. One of the new features of the security upgrade is that subscribers can create a user profile with a password for those who want to be able to manipulate their own subscription settings. This setup process of creating a password is not mandatory for regular subscribers, and is only required for Adminstrators of each list. If you are receiving this message, you are subscribed to the FULTON list, and you do not need to take any further action. If you want to send a message to the list, the address is fulton@rootsweb.com Thanks, Roberta R. (Fulton) Hirth, listadmin of Rootsweb FULTON-L discussion group formerly at Harriman, New York 10926, now at 124 Manning Way, Durham, NC, 27703 845-649-8615, hirth@frontiernet.net My Fulton web page at: http://www.frontiernet.net/~elisa96/hirth/fulton.htm
