I have really hit a brick wall with my great-grandfather, Jeduthan Fuller. His tombstone shows he was born July 3, 1820. Census records and his death record show Massachusetts but no town. I have had some information that he was born in Ashfield, Mass – father Nathan and mother Hannah Dyer. I have no proof of this and have been unsuccessful in locating a birth record for him. Jeduthan married Susan Reed in 1839 in White Creek, NY. (also not proven) In the 1840 census they were in New York. The 1850 census lists them in West Rutland, Vermont with the following children born in New York: Nathan, Augustus, Julia and Miami. The 1860 census lists the following children born in Vermont: Edward, Mary Ann, Mary Louise and the 1870 census lists Albert, Emma and Eva. Jeduthan and Susan lived in West Rutland for the rest of their lives.. He died in 1899 and she died in 1902. I have tried libraries, web sites and historical societies and have called and written to several town clerks in and around Ashfield with no success. I plan on going to the Bennington Museum and Genealogical Center in Bennington Vt. Someone told me they have several New York records – which may include a marriage record that hopefully will have some information about his parents and/or birth place.
