I recently read about a late Saxon artifact, ornamental metalwork, called the Fuller Brooch. It was bought by a London junk dealer circa 1910 and was eventually acquired by the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Soon denounced by experts as a fake, it was bought by a Captain Fuller. In 1949 the discovery of a similar piece gave authenticity to Fuller's artifact. After confirmation by the British Museum, Fuller sold it to the Museum for a small sum with the condition that it be called the Fuller Brooch. Does anyone have further details about this Captain Fuller? Doug Fairchild <[email protected]>
