The first person who posted about the private site may have phrased things awkwardly, or maybe it's the Mayflower thing that's making everyone so hostile. The sites are on familyhistory.com and are available to any family that wants a more private list. You can post pictures, recipes, have a chat, whatever. I was invited to one for a branch of my husband's family and check it out now and then.They run kind of slow, so I don't go there often. It's just a little more intimate and more flexible than the "anyone with this surname" lists, but there's room for and a need for both kinds, I think.
