    3. Are there any list subscribers who live in Maryland or close enough to Maryland to do FULLER research at the Maryland Archives? Page 5 - "Early Southern Fullers" states, "There is rumored to be a bulk of uncollated, unpublished material in the form of Puritan and Quaker records still reposing but inaccessible in Maryland archives. Someday other descendants of the ubiquitous William Fuller may be proven." Why are these records INACCESSIBLE? Maryland has a Public Information Act: The Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) governs the inspection and copying of public records held by state and local government agencies. The PIA is similar in some respects to the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which governs the disclosure of documents held by U.S. government agencies. The PIA requires that its provisions be "construed in favor of permitting inspection of a public record." However, the law also exempts certain records from disclosure. If you are denied access to a record held by a state or local agency, you may ask a court to review whether the denial was appropriate under the PIA. Any records in the Maryland Archives should be ACCESSIBLE under Maryland's PIA Please e-mail a reply if you're able to help or to share any advice. Thanks, Katherine

    2. Wilma, I checked in my book, Early Southern Fullers, and found a Mary Elizabeth Christopher, wife of David Lyle Boone. They had a daughter Sarah Jane "Jennie" Boone who married John Caswell Fuller in 1865. Sarah was born in GA on 12 Jan 1846 and died there in 1922. John and Jennie had 7 children the first of whom was named Mary Elizabeth Fuller, born on 1 Oct 1866. This may not help you but the names seemed to close to pass over. Kay Fuller Mitchell

    2. Are you the person who is trying to coordinate the Fuller DNA project? My uncle, William Harry Fuller, Jr., is the last in the direct Fuller bloodline in our branch of the family, and he has consented to participate. But we are unsure just how to do it. We are from the Fullers from Greene County Georgia who settled in East Central Alabama in the early 1830's... Green and his brother, John Brown Fuller. We are descended from Green Fuller who settled in Russell/Lee County Alabama. Can you give me any information as to whom I should contact about the DNA project and how to put this in motion? My uncle wants to know if he has to give blood and I told him yes. He is in his late seventies and jokes about wondering if there is enough left to do the testers any good. Thanks, Beth Smith es4152@aol.com

    1. FULLER DNA SURNAME STUDY
    2. KATHERINE BORGES
    3. Greetings Fuller list! My name is Katherine Borges and I'm an Ezekiel Fuller descendant. About the same time as Harlan and your list were discussing DNA testing last Fall 2003, I broached the subject of DNA testing to the Ezekiel Fuller Rootsweb list. At that time, only one person expressed interest and ended up taking the DNA test. (I found out later.) Since no one on the Ezekiel list responded in setting up a DNA project, and I'm experienced as an admin. for another DNA project, I set-up a Fuller DNA test through Family Tree DNA this past June. We've had 4 Fuller males participate so far and at least two are probably related, we're just waiting for the 25-marker results to come in. Here's a link to our Fuller Surname project site: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/fuller/ As you can see, it's primary focus is Ezekiel, but the project goals should be of interest to ALL American Fullers. If there are any Fuller males who would like to participate, they can join through the website or I can send them a "join authorization". It's $169 to take the 25-marker test through the group, and $229 if you do not test through the group. Either way, if you match Fuller males in the database, the matches will show on your list. If there are Fuller males who wish to participate, and later wish to form their own Fuller surname project with a different group administrator, that's totally fine with me. I tried the link to the Fuller Society, but got the "white page of death". Does anyone know if they've moved their site? To answer Joy's DNA questions in the archives: Yes, only males may take the test. It's because they use the Y-chromosome for the test, and since females do not have a "Y"... Feel free to e-mail me direct with any other questions you may have... ~Katherine

    1. Fwd: [AncestorSearch] Google Tips for Genealogy
    2. David Sylvester
    3. Hello Folks, I found this in another list and thought I'd pass it along here. Best wishes, David Google Search Hints for Genealogists http://searchforancestors.com/archives/google.html *********************************************** Google has recently changed its algorithm to make a number of improvements to the way it retrieves search results. To get the best results from your genealogy searches, it is helpful to understand how Google now works. Google now uses stemming. Google will search not only for your search terms, but also for variations of the words. This brand new Google feature means that, among other things, google will now give results for the plural and singular of the query words you enter. So, now, if you search for the query Philadelphia churches, Google will give search results for web pages that contain both Philadelphia church and Philadelphia churches. If you are looking for web pages with contain only the word churches and not church, search for Philadelphia +churches. By putting a plus sign before the word, Google will skip all web pages with variations of the word, and will give results only with that word. Notice that there is no space after the plus sign. Experiment with this query using Philadelphia churches and Philadelphia +churches, or use your own query, to notice the subtle difference in search results with and without the plus sign. ********************************************** There are now two ways to find word definitions using Google. --To use Google's dictionary, type a word into the Google search box. Click Search, then click on your word on the blue bar on the Google results page, after the words [ searched the web for ] . Google will give the definition using Dictionary.com. --Google has always had a dictionary, but now you can type in the word [ define ] followed by a space, and then the word or phrase you want defined. For example: [ define apoplexy ] or [ define inst ] or [ define [ wheelwright ]. Google will give the web definition at the top of the search results. You can also click on "More definitions" for further variations, and the web sites where the definitions are found. Both are great for: --Antiquated disease names, such as apoplexy, dropsy, phthisis, or quinsy. --Acronyms found on old documents or obituaries such as IOOF or AOH. --Names for old-fashioned occupations such as cordwainer or wheelwright. --Latin terms such as ab nepos. --Terms found in old documents such as perch or rod. ************************************************* The tilde ~ (that squiggly line that is on the very upper left of your keyboard to the left of the number 1 key) is Google's newest operand. Now you can search not only for a particular keyword, but also for its synonyms. Indicate a search for both by placing the tilde sign ("~") immediately in front of the keyword. A search for ~genealogy will now give results for genealogy, family history and family tree. A search for ~obits will now give results including obits, obituaries, and death notices. Try your query word with and without the tilde to notice the variation in search results. ************************************************** When using Google, watch your abbreviations! Google searches for the *exact* word entered. If you search for a location name, it searches for web pages that contain that name. If in your search query, you use the location abbreviation, Google doesn't convert the abbreviation to the whole name, but rather searches only for web pages that use the location abbreviation only! For example, Google does not consider Pennsylvania and PA to be the same. If you type in PA, Google will search for those pages with PA only, and your search will miss all the web pages that use the word Pennsylvania. Try searching Google for [ PA genealogy ], then [Pennsylvania genealogy], (or substitute your own location name and abbreviation), and compare the different results for each search. Using the abbreviated location name to search for current addresses such as a historical society can sometimes be successful, but if it doesn't bring results, be sure to try the full name. However, when searching for transcriptions of old data, you can widen your search by using the old-fashioned abbreviation. Here's a list of the old style US state abbreviations. http://searchforancestors.com/archives/oldstateabb.html It's not just locations where you should watch abbreviations. Don't use abbreviations for descriptive keywords for your Google queries. I am the Webmaster of a US Civil War site, and I see many people get no matches on their site searches because they use abbreviated words such a regt or reg't for regiment, or co for company. Google does not think that regiment and regt are the same. If you abbreviate a search keyword, you won't get complete and accurate search results. In this case, Google will only give results of web pages that use the abbreviation regt only, and you will miss all the web pages that use the word regiment. ************************************************* Google Directory If you want to search with a query for the broad subject matter such as Ireland genealogy, enter that search term into the Google search box. When you get the search results, go immediately to the tab on the top of the results that says "directory" and click on it. The directory is a human-edited classified listing of URLs. This isdifferent from regular Google search results which are retrieved based on a computer search algorithm or formula . And sometimes that human touch helps weed out irrelevant results when you are searching for a broad category. When you perform the Ireland genealogy search click on the directory, Google lists Genuki first, which is exactly where you should head if you are searching Irish Genealogy. Google next list the National Archives of Ireland and other important sites to search Irish genealogy. Click on Regional Europe Ireland Society and Culture Genealogy at the top of the Google page. This takes you inside the Google directory. Try this with your own location. Here's the Google Directory for genealogy http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Genealogy/ Head over to the human-edited Google directory, click around on the different categories, and take a good look around. ************************************************** There are more Google Search Hints for Genealogists at http://searchforancestors.com/archives/google.html http://www.mdwsweb.com/genealogylists Free Genealogy -- Roots should be shared.

I picked up her name from the 1850 US Census and her age at that time was 8 years old. Her parents were listed in the census as Carleton and Mary Fuller. And in a book written by Jeannette R. Thompson, History of Stratford, (1773 - 1925), the names are Carlton and Mary. Family lore has always said it was Carleton and Octavia (I beleive that she may have gone by her middle name). So, you see my Adelaide is different from your Adelaide. Thanks again for responding to my call for help. Have a great day! Harlan

    2. Pete Fisk
    3. Hi. Just thought I'd re-post my EDITH FULLER request. Edith was born in Tottenham, Middlesex, 27 June 1869. Her parents were Charles and Mary FULLER (both originally from Old Sampford, Essex). Edith's bro/sisters were: Rose, Alice, William, Jane, Ellen (possibly Eleanor). The family residence at the 1871 census was 85 High Road, Tottenham. Edith married Joseph James HOWARD on 6 November 1898 at The Parish Church, Tottenham - witnessed by an Eleanor FULLER and Joseph Thomas William HOWARD. Joseph James HOWARD was a Dairy owner, from Wood Green. Joseph later became a Policeman in Wandsworth, later transferring to the Chatham Dockyard Police, where they lived at Trafalgar Road, New Brompton (Gillingham), Kent. Later at 12 Stopford Road, Gillingham, Kent, up to around 1951. Edith was then taken to her son (Joseph Charles Howard)'s house at 33 Blunts Road, Eltham, Kent where she died on 17 September 1952 (age 82). (Her husband, Joseph Howard died earlier, 20 Sept 1941, age 77). Any information at all regarding Edith FULLER, her parents or her bro/sisters- would be greatly appreciated. With thanks, Pete Fisk

    2. Hi, While researching about 6 months ago, I found a site that listed the names of the families that lived in the area. There was definately a lot of inter marriage happening. Also, my grandfather had told me this as well. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw this. I think it was a census or goverment document, but I found it on-line. Also, It may have been in Massachutes, or New York. I will keep checking my info. Edna
