    2. Robert, Yesterday I wrote -- >A quick glance at the first paragraph didn't impress me. <sigh> That >paragraph referred *only* to NEHGR 55:410-416, which I do own. No >other source was mentioned, yet there were two errors: the TAG article >said that Edward's baptismal record listed in the NEHGR article identified >him as a son of Robert FULLER "the butcher" (it didn't, it only listed him >as "son of Robert") and that Robert FULLER "the butcher" mentioned >son-in-law John SPAULDING (he didn't, he mentioned "son-in-law James >Spalding"). So I can only conclude that the authors of the TAG article >misread the NEHGR article and didn't consult any other sources for >this particular paragraph and the information therein. Maybe they were >prone to typos like I've been lately. :-) I have finished comparing the TAG 61:194-199 with NEHGR 55:192-196 and 410-416, both written by Francis H. Fuller, and NEHGR 48:345 (some extracts, supplied by Francis H. Fuller, of Topcroft, Norfolk parish registers; Roger FULLER lived & died in Topcroft, which is very near Redenhall). I must say that I am very curious about this whole thing. I hesitate to say this, but either Francis H. Fuller was fabricating or misreading data or Bruce C. MacGunnigle, Robert M. Sherman, and Robert S. Wakefield were doing so. In addition to the errors I pointed out above, the TAG article contains other discrepancies as well: The TAG article says that John FULLER's will, proven in 1608/9 "mentions by name only his eldest son William" yet NEHGR 55:415, which seems to quote from the will, mentions sons John and Thomas. Rather than relying on the NEHGR article for the wording of the will, the TAG article uses LDS film #94,928. I have not viewed this film, so I can't say what it is but would hope that it is a film of the actual will. Also, the TAG article says that Roger FULLER's will, proven in 1644, mentions daughter "Grace Tyle [or Tyte] wife of Robart" yet NEHGR 55:194, which seems to quote from the will, calls her "Francis Tyte wife of Robert Tyte." The TAG article uses LDS film #167,117. Again, I have not viewed this film. Anyway, these errors are not enough to make me doubt the basic premise of the TAG article -- that Dr. Matthew FULLER who died in Barnstable MA in 1678 was the son of Edward FULLER. I agree with that. Yet it also doesn't convince me that Edward and Samuel FULLER were not sons of Robert FULLER of Redenhall, an opinion evidently shared by Robert C. Anderson and eventually by Bruce C. MacGunnigle when he published V. 4 of the "silver book"on the FULLERs. Between the time MacGunnigle published the TAG article in 1986 and 1990 when he published V. 4, he seems to have accepted their parentage. I think that Robert FULLER "the butcher" of Redenhall, Norfolk had at least 4 sons: Thomas bp. 1573, Edward bp. 1575, John bp. 1578, and Dr. Samuel bp. 1580. John died rather young, in 1608, leaving 4 sons: William (called eldest in his father's will; was he perhaps born ca 1600 after John married Margaret BALLS in 1599?), John bp. 1602, Matthew bp. 1603, and Thomas bp. 1606. At first glance, it appears that their son William was baptized posthumously in Redenhall in 1609. But I think perhaps this was a second son named William, the first dying soon after his father. That could also be why John's father Robert mentioned only his grandson John in his 1614 will -- this John was now the oldest grandchild, so Robert made provisions for him to have a trade. It is also possible that Margaret was a second wife and that William was born to the first wife. There was an Anne FULLER, wife of John, who was buried in Redenhall 3 Aug 1598 (NEHGR 55:413). This FULLER family seems to make it a habit to use the same name for sons even if they are both living, simply calling one "older" and the other "younger" (see NEHGR 55:415 for the will of John FULLER, proven May 1599, for a good example of this). It is also possible that John's sons Matthew and Thomas died young, or perhaps ended up in London. After all, Mr. Thomas COTTON of London was named supervisor of John's will. So, I see no reason to doubt that there was another Matthew FULLER, born ca 1805 (where?) to Edward FULLER. He's the one who came to America and died in Barnstable, MA in 1678. As for Giles FULLER, who died in Hampton NH and who was the son of Roger FULLER, I don't really see what the problem is. I think his father Roger (who died in 1644 in Topcroft, Norfolk) was the son of John FULLER who died in Redenhall, Norfolk in 1599. And I think this John FULLER was a brother of Robert "the butcher" of Redenhall. Which means that Giles and Dr. Matthew, son of Edward, were second cousins. As the TAG article speculates, "closest kinsman" could simply have meant he was the oldest of the "cousins" in New England. I agree with this. Ah well, this is all quite confusing. And I'm still no closer to finding an answer to my question about James (or John?) SPAULDING, son-in-law (or stepson) of Robert FULLER "the butcher." I welcome any input on this. Vickie Elam White

    1. FULLER-SPAULDING-ELLIOTT, Redenhall
    2. In my constant search for the identity of Edward SPAULDING of Braintree MA, I've often been told that an Edward married a Margaret ELLIOTT of Redenhall, Norfolk, England. However, no one seems to be able to supply proof of their marriage. Also, there is debate about whether this is the couple who either migrated directly to Braintree MA or were the same couple who were in VA and then MA (I doubt they were in VA, but...). So, I've decided to explore a different route. :-) __Mayflower Families Through Five Generations __, Volume 4 (1990) contains the information that Robert FULLER, father of Edward and Samuel FULLER who were "Mayflower" passengers, married Sarah DUNKHORN in January 1572/73 in Starston Parish, Norfolk, England. Robert lived in Redenhall, which was near Starston. Sarah died and he married Frances ___. Robert FULLER's daughter Sarah bp. 1586 supposedly married James SPALDING in Redenhall. Robert's 1614 will does mention his son-in-law James SPALDING, but the FULLER Redenhall marriages listed in NEHGR 55:412-413 doesn't show James and Sarah's marriage. They may have married in a neighboring parish. I am very interested in this couple because of the Redenhall connection. Also, according to the parish records published in NEHGR 55:413-414, Rafe [Ralph?] FULLER married an Elizabeth ELIOT in Redenhall in 1608 (they were supposedly the parents of Thomas FULLER of Dedham MA). Also, an Alice FULLER "widow, dau. of Robert ELIOT" was buried in Redenhall in 1626. I wonder if Edward SPAULDING and James SPAULDING were related? Were these ELIOTs connected to the Margaret who supposedly married Edward? And, since Sarah FULLER was the sister of Edward and Samuel FULLER, is it possible that Edward SPAULDING was in Leiden, Holland before coming to America? Is that why no one seems to be able to find info on him prior to his settlement in Braintree MA? Anyway, it is worth a look. I appreciate any help. Vickie Elam White

    1. Fuller - Ohio
    2. I am also at a dead end. I have a grandmother named Harriet Matilda Fuller b. April 25, 1810 in Ohio. Married December 13, 1830 in Highland county Ohio to Henry Tucker b. April 25, 1810. The hints that I have as to her roots include her association with the Gustin Family in Highland County Ohio who came from Sussix county New Jersey - ultimately from Mansfield Connecticut. Naomi Fuller daughter of Elkanah Fuller - married a Gustin (Elkanah is the brother of Rudolphus Fuller) - moved his family to Sussex county NJ in the mid 1700's. Elkanah and Rudolphus ultimately end up in Pennsylvania for awhile and Elkanah later dies in NY. Elkanah did have a son Samuel (that lived - one died) and I have found no information on Samuel Fullers family- and I am suspecting a link between my Harriet Matilda Fuller to Samuel to Elkanah but cannot prove it. Harriet names a child Elkanah Tucker and a daughter - my grandmother - Mary Ann Tucker who marries into my Stanley line. All of whom go to Indiana mid 1800's along with the Gustins. Anyone out there with any clues for me would be greatly appreciated. Harriet Matilda Fuller Tucker and Henry Tucker are both buried in Anderson Indiana. Mary Anne Stanley Magnuson Newington, Connecticut

Adm_and assign't against all persons whatsoever Shall and Will Warrant & forever Defend by these presenth in Witness thereof I set my hand & Seal August the 5th Day 1794. Solomon Fuller Test: Jeremiah Arnold I have tried to present the spelling, etc., as it appears in the original document. Among other things, this documents helps to prove: 1) Ransom Fuller, b. 1797 NC, cannot be the son of Solomon Fuller II and Ogilvia Avent. 2) Brittain Fuller and Gilley Fuller were living at the time of the Deed of Gift, but were not alive at the time Solomon Fuller II wrote his will in 1816, in Laurens District, SC. 3) It is likely that Gilley Fuller is the one who was married to William Green and is the mother of Gilley A. (Avent or Avan) Green, who is mentioned in Solomon II's will as a granddaughter. 4) Francis (Fuller?) is likely a later wife of William Green, and not a child of Solomon and Ogilvia Fuller. Several of us are working to document this. 5) Ransom, Alsey, and Jesse are being grouped together for their "gifts", indicating they are young children at the time. 6) It appears the children are listed in birth order (by gender), common in legal documents, and matches the order as listed in the will of Solomon Fuller II. Several members of the list have advised all members from time to time about the importance of researching and documenting their ancestors before arbitrarily attaching them to an existing family. I add my caution to this, also. There is a lot of incorrect information out there, including some of the information which has been submitted to the LDS site, FamilySearch. Unfortunately, this misinformation becomes "gospel" after a while, and is proliferated. I have copies of the originals of the wills of Ezekiel I, Solomon I, & Solomon II, and this Deed of Gift, with transcriptions. If anyone is interested in any or all of these, I'd be happy to send copies to you. Larry L. Fuller

    3. Hello, Havn't wrote for a while. I ran into a distant Fuller relative yesterday in my own town! I went to a sign shop to have some magnets made for my car doors about my custom stenciling I do. He was making up designs on the computer and we were talking about programs and genealogy. I mentioned I was a Mayflower Decendant and he did too. I said which one? He said Fuller! Me too, Edward or Samuel? Sammuel. I said I was From Edward and that I thought Samuel was a Doc. Wow, related 13 generations ago through brothers! His last Fuller was His great Grandmother, (at the time he didn't remember too many names) She married a Newman and had a daughter Lois Newman, his grandmother. This guys name is Billy Whiting Williams and I told him I would forward some list info if it pertained to him. I don't think he even knows his complete line or which child from Samuel he decends from? Any Samuel Fuller info you want me to share with him? Small world! April

    2. Who was his father? Elizabeth Fuller was living in his household at the age of 83 in the 1850c, Hot Springs Co. Ark. Was this his mother or his aunt. I haven't been able to go back further on this line. William lived in Bedford Co. Tn. in 1840c. Later in the 1860c,Hemstead Co. Ark. Lost track of him after that. Family members thought he moved to TX where he died. His first wife was Martha Hastings and the mother of his first eight children. She died after 1860c. and found record of him married to Louisa Jane Posey 22 Apr.1861. He was supposed to have had four children in this marriage. All born in TX. One of these children was Thomas Melton Fuller b.11 Mar.1867. William's children by 1st wife were, Elizabeth J. m.James Lowery, Wm.S.,Josiah, Mary A.,Luarka Frances, Martha A.,Robert Henry(my ggrandfather),James A., Nancy Lurene., m.John Mitchell Earp. All were born between 1834 and 1853. Would appreciate any help. Mary
