These are Fuller names I have for the MI area. Please forward to him. This is the first time I have emailed you so I am unfamiliar with the proper procedures. Addie Evaline Fuller was born about 1859 in St. Lawrence Co. NY. She was the daughter of James M. Fuller and Sally Mansfield. There were 11 children (some may have been Sally's stepchildren). The names were: Emily, Andrew, James M., Joseph, Mary I., Electa, Dolly or Polly, Nathan B., Permelia, Emma, and Addie. All the children were born in NY. James and Sally were in NY in the 1850 and 1860 census and in Almira, Benzie Co., MI by 1870. Addie married Frank Palmer 25 May 1878 in Elmwood, MI. She also married Albert Lackor/Lecor 27 June 1814 in Traverse City, MI. and Freemont Beeman 4 Jan. 1926. Sally Mansfield Fuller was born 19 Sept. 1819 in Vermont, married James M. Fuller in NY. She died 29 October 1874 in Almira, MI. Sally and her stepson John Wesley Fuller, born 16 Dec. 1834 were farmers in Almira, Benzie Co., MI in 1870. Other probable stepchildren were: Jesse Fuller born about 1829 in NY; Sally born about 1833 in NY. A Melissa Fuller born about 1936 was also listed in the 1850 census, but at the end of the family, as if unrelated. Hello, Listers! I finally am able to "post" much of what I have gleaned from several sources over years. My wife gave me Family Tree Maker for my birthday, and now I have a site! Check it out at www.familytreemaker.com/users/f/u/l/Thomas-W-Fuller/index.html Thanks to all of you out there who have been such a help, and especially my brother, Ray Fuller, who has a long-established website from Family Tree Maker and is actually related to more Fullers than me! The source will follow the text. THE SMOCK WEDDING "One of the more unusual customs that came to America was the SMOCK WEDDING. Under English common law if a widow remarried and brought any of her late husband's property to the marriage, the new husband became liable for any and all the debts of the previous husband. Women owned nothing in their own right, and this included their clothing. So it became the custom for indebted widows to get married in their underwear, or smocks." "The SMOCK WEDDING was tripple-fold. It was a bankruptcy proceeding; it was a marriage ceremony; it was an investiture because the bride then got a new wardrobe from her new husband". "In theory the ceremony was held for all to see, on a public highway. But in practice many smock weddings were indoors." "When Major Moses JOY married Widow Hannah WARD of Newfame, Vermont, in 1789, she was stark naked. She was in a closet, her hand extended through a hole cut in the door. Then she put on a fine set of clothes and emerged from her closet in style, to the general admiration of the assembled" Source: Ancestors and Descendants of LEWIS ROSS FREEMAN with related families By Patty Barthell Myers Penobscot Press 1995. In the past few days, I know of a few e-mails of a branch of the FULLER clan living here in the Pacific Northwest. I found another web pages reguarding the FULLER's, and they seem to be on my main branch of the Fullers. But I do have one question to ask all of you on the lists, this being did any of your BRAMBLETT's follow the FULLER's to the PNW? I ask this due to the fact that they also are/were a prominent family in this region. This is in response to a post to the RANSOM Surname, any info would be appreicated. Jim _____________________ Home: Surnames: Ransom Family Genealogy Forum Re: Looking for Fuller-Ransom Connection Posted by: Steve Ransom Date: March 12, 2000 at 16:26:06 In Reply to: Looking for Fuller-Ransom Connection by Jimmmie R. Daves of 543 This is very interesting. One of the daughters of Joseph Leeman, Sr., Elizabeth "Betsey" Leeman, married an unknown Fuller sometime prior to the will of the said Joseph, which was dated 5/19/1814, probated 3/1817,filed in Will Book E of Franklin Co., N.C. One of Joseph's other daughters, Sally, married Reuben Ransom, Sr. in 1779 Bute Co., N.C. (that's Franklin Co. later on). Joseph was born about 1830 and died 12/8/1816. There's another group of "unplaced" Ransoms that later lived in Rabun Co., Ga., which is where your Fuller group appears. This "unplaced" family is that of Lewis Ransom, whose daughter, Nancy Ransom, married Andrew J. Fuller. We've been unable to determine who Lewis Ransom's father was, but had suspected it might be Samuel Ransom, the son of James and Amy Davis Ransom. The new info that you provide here, and if it can be shown that the Betsey Leeman is indeed married into your Fuller family, might be the clue necessary to figure out your Ransom Fuller as well as our Lewis Ransom? Is Betsey Leeman perhaps the mother of your Rasnom Fuller?
