There is considerable commonality of data between the two trees but there is also a considerable amount of additional data from the FTM tree which is stored in the AMT although it cannot be viewed in the AMT tree. I recently had a problem with my hard disk and lost my FTM file. Luckily I was able to download the AMT to a new file and recover. There was some additional clean up to get the file back but it was nothing near the amount of clean up required when I downloaded an AMT using FTM 2012. There is no way to use the sync feature to trade information between your tree and your wife's trees. Currently only one AMT can be synced to one FTM Tree on a single computer. Hopefully the development team are working on some way to sync a single AMT tree to the same tree on multiple computers i.e. on your desktop and you laptop. You can link your one FTM tree to one tree on Ancestry.com. Your wife can link each of her trees to a separate tree on Ancestry.com but there are not cross links. The reason people want to have trees in Ancestry.com is the ability to share data. This may not be as you anticipate. What this means is that the AMTs on Ancestry.com allow the owner to invite others to participate in the tree. An invitee does not have to have a subscriber account but they must register a user account. The owner can specify the level of participation for each invitee. * Guest - can only view the AMT and leave comments. They cannot see living individuals unless the owner also grants them that privilege. They cannot see Individual Notes. * Contributor - can view the AMT, leave comments and add stories and photos. They cannot see living individuals unless the owner also grants them that privilege. They cannot see Individual Notes. * Editor - can view the AMT, leave comments, add stories and photos and add and edit people. By default an Editor can see living people and notes. I hope this answers your question. BJ On 12/20/2013 1:55 PM, [email protected] wrote: > Where can I find the difference between FTM 2012 which is older version of FTM you mention. First I bought in May 2011 the FTM 2011 - disc 1 Platinum, disc 2 Family history toolkit (not install), disk 3 Bonus disc an extra copy to share (with wife). Have the FTM 2011 Companion Guide. > > Got on 3-15-2013 FTM 2012 had new TreeSync when Ancestry had a coonference in my area. My wife share with me as in FTM 2011. How do we connect with Sync than can share the info like ancestor.com? Like to share with certain lines not all right now as all my names are in one tree. Wife got many trees. > ********************************** List information page http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/FTM-TECH.html Version 2008 - 2012 http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/home ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
