    1. [FTM-TECH] 2012 FTM Sync? Version
    2. Where can I find the difference between FTM 2012 which is older version of FTM you mention. First I bought in May 2011 the FTM 2011 - disc 1 Platinum, disc 2 Family history toolkit (not install), disk 3 Bonus disc an extra copy to share (with wife). Have the FTM 2011 Companion Guide. Got on 3-15-2013 FTM 2012 had new TreeSync when Ancestry had a coonference in my area. My wife share with me as in FTM 2011. How do we connect with Sync than can share the info like ancestor.com? Like to share with certain lines not all right now as all my names are in one tree. Wife got many trees. Robert L. Grover In a message dated 12/20/2013 12:21:16 P.M. I think most of us need a bit more detail before we know how to answer you. Are you using FTM 2012 which is the older version of FTM or are you using the latest version FTM 2014. FTM 2014 is much more advanced as for syncing files.. We also need to clarify a couple of terms. * Syncing files is performed between a single copy of a FTM data file and a single member tree stored on Ancestry.com. You can only sync your file to your Ancestry Member Tree (AMT). This feature allows the user to ensure the two linked trees have the same data. * The only two ways to establish a sync link between the two files are: 1. You can start with your FTM data file and upload it to a synced tree. This will take your data and most of your media files and upload them into a new AMT on Ancestry.com. 2. You can start with an existing AMT and download it into a new FTM data base. This will download the data and media from an existing AMT and generate a new FTM data file. There are a few quirks and a certain amount of data clean up which may be necessary with the FTM data file. This is heavily dependent upon which version of FTM you are using. FTM 2012 requires considerably more clean up than does FTM 2014. * Once you establish the sync link between the two trees, you can elect to have the sync process performed automatically (done when you open and close the FTM file) or manually (performed when you click "Sync Now"). FTM has another feature which allows the user to download and incorporate data from Ancestry.com's data bases and from AMT's belonging to other users. This is performed with the Search and Hints features. The user can use the Web Merge Wizard to insert the data from Ancestry.com into his existing tree. This is not called Syncing but I'm not sure whether your question is referring to this or not. Finally FTM has a feature called Web Clipping. This allows the user to "merge" information from third party web sites into the FTM file. Again this is not called Syncing. >From your initial comment, I'm not sure to which feature you are referring so can you be a bit more specific? It sounds as if that is FTM 2011. > Got on 3-15-2013 FTM 2012 had new TreeSync when Ancestry had a coonference in my area. My wife share with me as in FTM 2011. Most likely, this is FTM 2012 as that is where TreeSync started. In part, because there was no FTM 2013, there are a fair number of updates to the program known as FTM 2012. With FTM 2012 or FTM 2014 you can do TreeSync, but NOT with FTM 2011. I would suggest you convert the trees you have on FTM 2011 to FTM 2012 and then consider syncing them to Ancestry.com. [When converted to 2012 form, the new files will NOT be usable in 2011 anymore.] My personal preference is to have everyone in a single tree - but you and your wife must make your own choice.
