Greetings, I am using FTM 2014 (Windows 7; 64-bit). Recently been adding facts (such as residence) to one person and then copying this fact to other family members. When I click on "paste", the program often freezes. I've tried compacting the file and have also uninstalled and then reinstalled FTM. Any thoughts on resolving this problem? Could the 32-bit option help? Thanks for any ideas. Bill
Bill, I use paste all the time to copy events (mainly census) without problems using FTM 2014. Both computers are running Win 8.1, 64-bit, with 16 MB RAM. How much RAM is on the computer you described? Like Denise Moss-Fitch, I have 16 GB of physical RAM (and 64 GB more virtual RAM on a SSD) but I use Windows 7 Professional SP1. [You can see this information for YOUR computer through FTM 2014 by going to Help, About Family Tree Maker and then System information. If you have the hardware to run in 64-bit mode, that would be how the FTM 2014 software would install itself. OTOH, I suspect that if you only have 4 GB of physical RAM and minimal virtual RAM, it might slow your system down. Would you post YOUR results either to the list or to me privately, please? I did precisely what you said you did. The spinning blue circle appears and the Not responding text appears for a short while and then both go away as the software finishes the task. To me, this is NORMAL! John Okerson Lakeland, TN

To me, this is NORMAL! Interesting John. I select a census entry to copy to other members of the family included on the census, select Copy, then select Paste. From the list of family members in the copy dialog I select the check boxes for individuals to whom I want the census copied, and click OK. Within a second or three, the copy dialog is gone and the FTM 2014 has completed the task. No 'Not Responding' displays. I suppose the difference could be the processor (this laptop has an Intel Core i7-3820Q processor). In addition to compacting the FTM file daily after working with the information I have background optimization of the computer's two hard disk drives too. Denise
