    1. Re: [FTM-TECH] 2012 FTM Sync?

    3. I'm not sure whether you have received a satisfactory reply to your question or not. I think most of us need a bit more detail before we know how to answer you. Are you using FTM 2012 which is the older version of FTM or are you using the latest version FTM 2014. FTM 2014 is much more advanced as for syncing files.. We also need to clarify a couple of terms. * Syncing files is performed between a single copy of a FTM data file and a single member tree stored on Ancestry.com. You can only sync your file to your Ancestry Member Tree (AMT). This feature allows the user to ensure the two linked trees have the same data. * The only two ways to establish a sync link between the two files are: 1. You can start with your FTM data file and upload it to a synced tree. This will take your data and most of your media files and upload them into a new AMT on Ancestry.com. 2. You can start with an existing AMT and download it into a new FTM data base. This will download the data and media from an existing AMT and generate a new FTM data file. There are a few quirks and a certain amount of data clean up which may be necessary with the FTM data file. This is heavily dependent upon which version of FTM you are using. FTM 2012 requires considerably more clean up than does FTM 2014. * Once you establish the sync link between the two trees, you can elect to have the sync process performed automatically (done when you open and close the FTM file) or manually (performed when you click "Sync Now"). FTM has another feature which allows the user to download and incorporate data from Ancestry.com's data bases and from AMT's belonging to other users. This is performed with the Search and Hints features. The user can use the Web Merge Wizard to insert the data from Ancestry.com into his existing tree. This is not called Syncing but I'm not sure whether your question is referring to this or not. Finally FTM has a feature called Web Clipping. This allows the user to "merge" information from third party web sites into the FTM file. Again this is not called Syncing. From your initial comment, I'm not sure to which feature you are referring so can you be a bit more specific? BJ On 12/19/2013 12:23 PM, [email protected] wrote: > I just got the 2012 FTM.
