FTM 2014 works quite well. I use it with Windows 7 Professional. Hopefully, you have 8 GB of RAM in your new laptop machine so you can run in 64-bit mode! Just so you understand, genealogy programs get replaced with a new version about once a year - updates in the interim are sent out about every 8 weeks or so. 2014 is quite different from 2005, so it may take some time to learn how to use it. If you have made the leap to Windows 8 (or 8.1), you shouldn't have a problem with the new version.
