If you know what I mean :o) I'm sure that all the answers you've been given will have been helpful to you. I recommend that you make a decision whether to install FTM-2014 onto your Vista desktop computer or onto your Windows 8 laptop. If you are happy with Vista, put the new program onto your desktop. If you are happy with Windows 8, put it onto your laptop. BTW, there is now a free upgrade to Windows 8.1. Go to the Windows Store and follow the prompts. The exercise takes about an hour. It is important to decide where your major files are going to be held because it will be that computer/laptop that you will want to TreeSync to an online Ancestry Tree. You can make automatic backups to wherever you want on your devices. But you can only have one Tree on one device (eg. your desktop OR your laptop) synced to an online Ancestry Tree. Although in a different format, your Ancestry Tree will be identical to the FTM-2014 Tree on your desktop (or laptop), each time the Trees are synced. I hope this helps.
