    3. Well, I've bitten the bullet & ordered FTM 2014. It should be here in the next few days, so gird your loins & get ready to hear anguished wails coming your way from the Kent seaside !! :o) No doubt there will be questions & cries for help, especially as I have to try to get everything from FTM 2005 into FTM 2014 :o( Pat.xxx :o) A Maid of Kent http://peajaykayspatch.blogspot.com/

    3. It should work perfectly Install FTM 2014 and register it It should detect your FTM 2005 file and offer to convert a copy Of course a wise genealogist will always have a backup I suspect that when you get into it, you will have to do some work as a once off on Places but plenty of good tools in FTM I would also suggest that you turn on the Description field for at least Birth, Christening, Marriage, Death and Burial But it works well If you have a 64-bit Windows computer, FTM 2014 will install as 64-bit which significantly improves the speed , especially if you have more than 4GB of RAM John D -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of PJK . 3. Thanks for the reply, Capt'n :o) My laptop has 4GB memory & is 64bit, so hopefully, it'll be fairly plain sailing. I have 2 back up copies of my tree on a memory stick & an external hard drive but just to belt-braces-zip & button it, I'll probably make another copy or two on another memory stick & external hard drive :o) Wish me luck !! :o) Pat.xxx :o) A Maid of Kent http://peajaykayspatch.blogspot.com/ > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2014 20:39:20 +1100 > Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2014 > > It should work perfectly > > Install FTM 2014 and register it > > It should detect your FTM 2005 file and offer to convert a copy > > Of course a wise genealogist will always have a backup > > I suspect that when you get into it, you will have to do some work as a once > off on Places but plenty of good tools in FTM > > I would also suggest that you turn on the Description field for at least > Birth, Christening, Marriage, Death and Burial > > But it works well > > If you have a 64-bit Windows computer, FTM 2014 will install as 64-bit which > significantly improves the speed , especially if you have more than 4GB of > RAM > > John D > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > On Behalf Of PJK . > Sent: Wednesday, 22 January 2014 7:34 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2014 > > Well, I've bitten the bullet & ordered FTM 2014.
