I am having a similar problem. Running FTM 2014 (3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3770 processor, 3.40 GHz, 16GB SDRAM, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with 2TB hard drive, ). My file is relatively small with around 2500 people and 150 media items. There doesn't seem to be any particular cause. I can just be in the middle of some activity and it locks up. The last time I was in the midst of a web search when it froze, which could have been an Ancestry issue, but that is not always the case. Nothing works short of starting Task Manager, ending FTM and restarting. Sometimes that doesn't even work and the only option is to reboot. Fortunately I have not noticed any data loss in the process but it is annoying. My program (FTM 2014) or computer (Win 7 Home Prem, 8 GB memory), has never frozen when I copy and paste. BUT I can only copy and paste if my cursor is located at the exact place in FTM where I want to copy TO. I might copy a place name from a census in Ancestry to the individual fact section. If I am not at that exact location in FTM 2014 when I did the copy (Ctl C), something else would paste - namely the first bit of text that appears on the Fact page.
