    1. Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2014 all in one chart and reindexing database

    3. What I want is what was available in earlier versions of FTM that allowed you to generate a tree going back as far as you wanted in a tree with every one of your grandparents on one screen. Then create a PDF file that you can send to someone and they can pan around the tree not to print it. If you use the book option for the it will produce all the ancestors but on hundreds of different pages. Under options it allows me to pick a PDF driver and it is Adobe, but I can pick others like snagit and one note Older versions allowed you to reindex. Under a individuals personal information is Person Id number. On reindexing the file I mean the personal ID numbering assigned to each individual. I created a ahnentafel report and every one appears to be numbered correctly until about page 241 of 340 then the numbers jump to 147000, 2m, 4m, 6m , 18m, 78m, 156m, 313m . I only have 120,952 people in my database. For example Matilda Atheling of Scotland is listed as 80353188331 but if you go to this person there is NO ID number for her. This person I manually added the other day. If I go to Tools, Options, Reference and select Use individual reference numbers it then places a ID number 120409 for her but not in the report. Unchecking using individual reference numbers removes the ID for only the people that did not have the personal Id number which is about half the people in the database. How do I get the numbers corrected if you can't reindex the file in FTM 2014? What it looks like to me is that everyone I have added after the import to FTM 2014 is missing the personal ID number. Thanks for the help Fred -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of BJ Sent: Monday, February 17, 2014 6:17 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2014 all in one chart and reindexing database You can use the Share, Export to one page PDF to send the chart to a PDF file. The only problem is if the chart is more than about 200 x 200 inches, you will get a message saying the chart is too big and will be clipped. There is no way to get around this. FTM uses a 3rd party's PDF generator and there are no controls or options. The 3rd party generator is developed to the PDF Version 1.3 or about Acrobat 4.x level) which controls the maximum page size. Up to Acrobat 3.0 - 45 x 45 inches (max) From Acrobat 4.0 - 200 x 200 inches (max) As I understand it Adobe 8 and above have a higher max page size but most readers will not handle the custom sizes. I have BullZip PDF installed. It can match Adobe 8 and I was able to use it to create a PDF with 1000 x 1000 inches page. I set that as my default printer. FTM then used that as a printer and I could specify the Extended Family Chart be produced on a page 1000 x 1000. I could see the chart in FTM 2014 and I was able to print it using the BullZip PDF driver; however, when I opened the PDF in any reader, the page always appeared blank. There was no way to view the chart. As for the maximum number of generations for the Pedigree chart, I suspect that has to do with the maximum page size of 200 inches when you export it to a One page PDF. It is difficult to get 16 generations on a single 200 inch high page. If I used the chart defaults for the information and format, I could not even get 16 generations on one page. The bottom of the chart was always clipped. Playing around with the format, i.e. using "squished" and with the information included (Birth, Married, Death with date and location only, i.e. no description); I was able to get it to 199 inches. Check the size of the chart in the upper right corner of the Preview. The format is width x height. I'm not sure what you mean when you say, "Reindex the file". You can change the sort of the index displayed but other than that there is no way to reindex the file. Can you explain with a bit more information exactly what are you trying to do? Hope this helps.
