Allie, et al, I have a Free Agent EHD. When I remove it, I used to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option. However, I now usually just shut the computer down because I would run into problems reconnecting the Free Agent again. It seems Windows disables the port and you can't reconnect without shutting down first. I have also caused weird happenings by having the power and data plugs both plugged into the same USB hub. Works much better if you don't try to send data while drawing power for the same device from the same connection. Jay Thompson just an old genealogy nut too tough to crack. ________________________________ From: Allie <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, February 4, 2014 12:34 PM Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] Companion Guide BJ & Arnie I'm wondering if the fact that that my external hard drive is connected to my computer via a USB Hub is the problem. It does not consider an external hard disk drive connected via a USB port to be a removable device. I suspect this is due to some Windows classification but am not sure. However, you may use the Custom option to view and select the external hard disk.
