    3. Arnie It is a Belkin Multi-USB Hub. The Hub contains 4 USB ports. I use one of these ports to connect to my external HD. I connect and disconnect it without using any sort of safety measure you and BJ mentioned in an earlier post. BTW, I use windows 7. I have just attached my FireLite external drive and then from FTM-2014 selected Custom then clicked on change to select drive M: from the list of hard drives available. Had to make a directory as it said that I didn't have the privilege to write directly to drive M:. Mad a directory called FTM-2014 and selected that as the place where the backups would go. Started a backup and it was done in a very short period of time like 35 seconds to backup a file that is 353 MB. When I want to disconnect the FireLite hard drive then I click on the icon to remove Hardware in the task bar then unplug the drive. Allie -----Original Message----- From: BJ Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2014 10:49 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] Companion Guide I don't know the criteria, FTM uses to identify what is a "removable device" but that particular option will only display possible connections normally available for solid state memory devices such as thumbnail drives and flash drives. It does not consider an external hard disk drive connected via a USB port to be a removable device. I suspect this is due to some Windows classification but am not sure. However, you may use the Custom option to view and select the external hard disk.
