Go into Tools>Options>References and turn on the ID numbers FTM Help Notes Options: References The References tab in the Options dialog box lets you set up automatic reference numbering of the Person ID and Relationship ID facts for each record in your tree. The Person ID and Relationship ID facts provide a way for you to record a reference number for a person or relationship. You can enter values in these fields manually or enable Family Tree Maker to assign them automatically. When you enable the automatic reference numbers for an ID fact, a reference number is added to each record to which you have not assigned a reference number manually. You can enable automatic Person ID and Relationship ID numbering separately. Manually entered reference numbers A manually entered reference number can include any alphanumeric characters and does not need to be unique in the tree. You do not need to enter a reference number for each record or relationship; however, reference numbers can be helpful when searching for a record or identifying a person. You can include as many manually entered reference numbers as you want and can replace an automatically generated reference number with a manually entered reference number (see To edit an automatically generated reference number). Automatically entered reference numbers Family Tree Maker does not automatically assign reference numbers unless you have specified for it to do so in the References tab of the Options dialog box. Numbering begins with the first record in the database and incrementally assigns reference numbers according to the options you specify. There can be only one automatically entered reference number per person or relationship. If you delete all manually entered references, and automatic reference numbering is enabled, Family Tree Maker automatically assigns a reference number to the person or relationship. Because you can assign reference numbers manually to a person or relationship, Family Tree Maker follows distinct guidelines regarding reference numbers: .You can identify an automatically generated reference number from the gray background and lack of Options menu. When you click the number, an Edit Reference Number button appears. .Manual reference numbers always override automatic reference numbers. .Enabling automatic reference numbers does not overwrite existing manual reference numbers. .If you have added a Person ID or Relationship ID fact to a record but left it blank, an automatically generated reference number will NOT replace that reference number. You must remove the fact to enable automatic reference numbering for that record. .You cannot mark an automatic reference number as Preferred or Private. .You can mark a manual reference number as Preferred or Private. .You cannot include fact properties, sources, media, or notes with an automatically generated reference number. .You cannot delete an automatically generated Person ID or Relationship ID fact. .Automatic reference numbers are unique among themselves but can be identical to existing manual reference numbers. .When viewing Fact Data Options for Person ID or Relationship ID facts, only manual reference numbers are listed for All individuals. Automatically generated reference numbers will not be included. .When you disable automatic reference numbers, the automatic reference numbers are removed from all records. Manual Reference IDs are not removed. .Reference numbers (both automatic and manual) are NOT included in any of the exports John D -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Fred & Marie Sent: Wednesday, 19 February 2014 4:59 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2014 all in one chart and reindexing database What I want is what was available in earlier versions of FTM that allowed you to generate a tree going back as far as you wanted in a tree with every one of your grandparents on one screen. Then create a PDF file that you can send to someone and they can pan around the tree not to print it. If you use the book option for the it will produce all the ancestors but on hundreds of different pages. Under options it allows me to pick a PDF driver and it is Adobe, but I can pick others like snagit and one note Older versions allowed you to reindex. Under a individuals personal information is Person Id number. On reindexing the file I mean the personal ID numbering assigned to each individual. I created a ahnentafel report and every one appears to be numbered correctly until about page 241 of 340 then the numbers jump to 147000, 2m, 4m, 6m , 18m, 78m, 156m, 313m . I only have 120,952 people in my database. For example Matilda Atheling of Scotland is listed as 80353188331 but if you go to this person there is NO ID number for her. This person I manually added the other day. If I go to Tools, Options, Reference and select Use individual reference numbers it then places a ID number 120409 for her but not in the report. Unchecking using individual reference numbers removes the ID for only the people that did not have the personal Id number which is about half the people in the database. How do I get the numbers corrected if you can't reindex the file in FTM 2014? What it looks like to me is that everyone I have added after the import to FTM 2014 is missing the personal ID number. Thanks for the help Fred
