The criteria for whether the external hard disk is considered a removable device or not seems to be the way Windows Identifies it. All memory sticks are classified as USB devices. The external hard disk is classified as a USB + SCSI device. The designation as a SCSI device causes FTM to not list it as removable. Not the best logic but that seems to be the difference. Hi BJ, When you plug an external hard disk into a USB port there is no way to remove it safely unless you power down your system as far as I can find.
