FTM has long made it a practice that each new revision is a standalone installation. It normally installs the program in a new folder. So you are safe in jumping from FTM 2011 to FTM 2014. A number of people on the list have several versions of FTM installed on their computer. I have FTM 2012 and FTM 2014 but I'm thinking of uninstalling FTM 2012 in the near future. If you intend to run both FTM 2011 and FTM 2014, I suggest you keep your data files in separate folders. This helps you in keeping the files straight. When FTM 2014 installs, it will convert your FTM 2011 data file. It does this by reading the FTM 2011 file and writing a new file in the FTM 2014 structure. The FTM 2011 file will remain in its normal format and can be accessed and used by FTM 2011. I tend to keep the data files for each version in their separate sub-folder e.g. D:\FTM Data\FTM2011 D:\FTM Data\FTM2014 Keeping them separate makes it easier to identify the data files while using Windows Explorer. The easiest way of moving your data into the new folder is to * use FTM 2011 to create a backup of the file * use FTM 2014 to restore the backup into the new sub-folder (File, Restore) * during the restore processing, ensure you provide the file name for the new file AND browse to the new folder (directory) where you want the new file to be stored e.g. D:\FTM Data\FTM 2104 * FTM 2014 will create the new file using the name you provided and in the directory you specified * If your FTM 2011 file was synced to an online tree, the FTM 2011 file will remain synced. FTM 2011 did not have the technology to store the information needed for changing the links to the newly restored file. * Once you have the new FTM 2014 file, if you want, you will need to upload sync the file to a new online file. Provide a new name for the online file else you may wind up with two online trees with the same name. The exist together without problems but it will be more difficult for you to remember which is linked to which version of FTM. As to your question about subscriptions. You can contact Ancestry.com and have them append the six month subscription to your existing subscription if you have one. The subscription is separate from the version of FTM. You may use it with FTM 2011, FTM 2014 or via your external browser. I hope that answers your questions. Thank you. I always used the free version of Legacy until I bought the 2011 FTM.
