I don't know the criteria, FTM uses to identify what is a "removable device" but that particular option will only display possible connections normally available for solid state memory devices such as thumbnail drives and flash drives. It does not consider an external hard disk drive connected via a USB port to be a removable device. I suspect this is due to some Windows classification but am not sure. However, you may use the Custom option to view and select the external hard disk.
