I do not know who his parents were, but I have reason to believe that his father's surname was either Gelshinan, Gelchenor or some variation of the spelling. He eventually shows up in a census with the John and Margaret Cunningham Herson family. He and some of his descendanys used both the Herson and Gelchenor surnae at vaiours times. I have designated Unknoen Gelchenor and Unknown Unknown as his bio;ogical parents. I have designated hus relationship, as a child in the Heson family, as Other. His relationship with the biological children of the Herson is shown as Brother or Sister Is there a way to change the sibling's relationships to Other? I am using the latest version of Ftm2014 with Windows 8.1 Thanks. 3. The problem is you have attached him as a child of the individuals in the census. Once you have attached him as a child with the same parents as the other children, he is by definition the other children's sibling AND there is no way to change the sibling relationship. I'm a bit confused. As I interpret your comment, you have him attached to a set of biological parents, Unknown Gelchenor and Unknown Unknown. You have also attached him as a child to the John and Margaret Cunningham Herson family. What was the relationship between him and the head of household in the census? Who are the parents of John Herson? 3. BJ, Thanks, as usual! I accept your response that I cannot make the desired changes. My great-grandfather John Gelchenor appeared with the John Herson family as an adolescent during the years when relationships were not part of the census. It did seem appropriate to me to add him as a child of John and Margaret Cunningha, Herson due to his age and due to the fact that I am aware of Gelchenor/Gelshinans being biologically related to another Cunningham. John Gelchenor was someetimes listed as Herson, sometimes as Gelchenor in City Directories and in later census after his marriage. I do not know who John Herson's parents were. 3. I attempted to change some of the relationships between a child and the parents but regardless of what I changed that relationship to it did not alter the relationship between the siblings. e.g. I change the relationship between the individual and the parents to "Foster" but the relationship between the siblings remained either Brother or Sister. The "brother"/"sister" seems to be completely dependent upon the fact that all of the children are linked as children of the parents. 3. Tom, I have suggested to you several times AND I just confirmed that if you go to the People Workspace, Select one of the "parents", Select the RELATIONSHIP Tab, scroll down to the Children, in the Right Hand Panel you will SEE where you can use the pull down menu to set the relationship you want. Then select the other Children and set their relationship to the parents.
