Looking at the Resolve Place Name pop-up window, the "upper field" is labeled "Place Detail," isn't it????? ________________________________ From: H R Worthington <rworthington@att.net> To: Debbie <growingatree@hotmail.com>; "ftm-tech@rootsweb.com" <ftm-tech@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2015 5:37 PM Subject: Re: Resolving Place Names Debbie, You said you looked at the video I made on Historical Names. In the Video I did NOT use the Place Detail. You would move the "township" name up to the upper field on the Resolve Place Name, just like I showed in that video. Does that help? Questions 1 & 1B: When going through the process of resolving the places, do I put the "township" or the "town" in the historic place field? This version seems more correct: Place Detail: Ligonier Township Place Name: Laughlinton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA Place Detail: Brookhaven Town Place Name: Bellport, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA 2. I'm still not sure what to do with the "at sea" places..... ... 5. And, one more to add to the mix: -- How about census records where you have both the street address and the ward. I am typically more interested in the street address than I am the ward. But, sometimes a street address winds up in different wards over time and I prefer not to have multiple places for the same street address: 1234 Main Street, Ward 10, Elmhurst, Queens, NY, USA 1234 Main Street, Ward 8, Elmhurst, Queens, NY, USA What I was doing is adding the Ward to the "description" field: DATE: 1910 Place Detail: --- Place Name: 1234 Main Street, Elmhurst, Queens, NY, USA DESCRIPTION: Ward 10: The household included John Smith (40), his wife Abigail (38) and his son Jack (19). DATE: 1920 Place Detail: --- Place Name: 1234 Main Street, Elmhurst, Queens, NY, USA DESCRIPTION: Ward 8: The household included John Smith (50) and his wife Abigail (48). TIA Debbie
