Bob I just take my laptop when I go away. With a large database I need a full power machine. One of my neighbours bought a netbook earlier in the year and found it so underpowered they took it back. For simple quick reference I carry my data in gedcom form on my iPhone using GedView. I have to declare an interest here as my son wrote it. Hello BJ, The idea is good, but, in England the cost of 'mobile internet access', (ie. 3G), is what one could call expensive. I use one on occasions as a standby if needed, but would not advise anyone to be dependant on a very slow, and expensive internet access in this country. Enjoy Life. Never promise, but will always try. One think you might consider is a Sony Vaio laptop. I don't have one but my son-in-law recently purchase one. One capability it has which I sort of like is the ability to connect to the internet without having to boot Windows. Not sure of the cost or the specs but it is another option.
