I see Linda has provided you with a great work around. The only point I would stress is, when you sync your FTM 2012 file to an online tree, it is synced in almost all aspects. You cannot have a file with images synced to an online tree without images. The work around suggested by Linda results in two PC files; the one with images is not synced to an online tree. The file without images is synced to the online tree. I mention this to ensure you recognize that realize any changes made to the online tree will not be applied to the file with the images. I might mention a couple of other items regarding syncing images. 1. In FTM 2012 you may have images in a number of different image file formats; such as JPG, BMP, TIF, etc. When these images are uploaded via the Sync feature, they are converted to JPG image format. 2. Ancestry.com increasingly has images linked to their data bases: e.g. census, WW draft registration cards as well as others. When you upload the sources which have these images in your file, the images will not be uploaded to your online tree. Rather the source-citation will be linked to the original image in the Ancestry.com data base. BJ On 10/15/2011 12:56 PM, Bob Sangster wrote: > Further to my earlier post re. FTM on a portable unit, one reply mentioned using the 'Sync' facility within FTM2012, and that makes me ask another question: My file (to date), includes 2000 + scans etc of Census/Church records/Cert's etc. Now does that mean I have to up-load my file including images, or is it possible to upload my file 'without' images? > > I have FTM 2012, but have not yet installed it, so before I do, this question could make me decide wether to use the 'sync' facility on installation. >
