    3. Thanks to John Yates for his review of FTM 2 for Mac. Think I'll wait. I'm quite content with Reunion. I'd like to make some comments on his "review" of FTM 2. 1) It's Standard Operating Proceedure for FTM to install a new release of software alongside of and not as a replacement for the previous version. This is viewed as a plus by most readers of the tech list. 2) I agree it would be nice if there was an install time option to ask the user if he/she would prefer to have the new software installed over or along side of whatever previous versions of FTM may exist on the machine. 3) John asks why keep the old program around if the new one will update the previous format of the family file(s) to new versions. Good Question. The answer as BJ and others have pointed out before is that if you copy your old files to a new directory and then do not access the copies with the new software you can run the old software on the old files. Why would you want to do this? Because if you're BJ or any of the other kind hearted souls on this list, you can then run the old software on your old files to help users on this list troubleshoot problems with old software. The other reason is that if you have relatives and/or research partners running the old software, you can keep your files and software completely compatible with what your relatives/partners are doing. 4) Running both programs from the OSX Dock is problematic, but could easily be solved were Ancestry to supply slightly different Icons to be loaded onto the Dock with each install. I'm sure there's a way to copy the icon and then modify the icon and get it to be on the dock, but my iMac skills are not at that level. jr Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. ---Gen. But you have to first realize that the one left after the install is the old one. I had to manually place the new one there, and side by side you can see which is which. But I deleted the old icon from the dock. I have left the old software in the Applications folder, for now. John

I have two relatives who are dyed in the wool Mac users, so I await your comments on the version 2 of the product, please. Of particular interest to me are 1) whether uploading & linking work well with good sized databases, 2) the perceived speed of the program, and 3) the performance when creating documents. Thanks in advance.
